iCloud mail is down AGAIN

I am NOT a happy camper, Apple - can't get email once again because iCloud Mail is down. Again.

Fix it. Get it right. When I read that it affects only a "small number" of users that means nothing. I'm ALWAYS ONE OF THOSE AFFECTED.

Sorry for the shouting - I haven't had my coffee yet.

Grrrr.

Hi Brad

Probably best to start a new thread. This thread centred around a major outage in mid September. The iCloud team were burying their heads in the sand, loads of loyal iCloud users were left in the dark and the lack of any communication from Apple was very frustrating. My confidence was restored when I was fortunate enough to receive an admission/apology from iCloud on 14 September:

Your issue may be localised and I suggest, if you haven't already, checking your settings and restarting your PC. This has worked for me in the past....

http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/

says 1.1% of users are having problems, my guess is that is a very conservative number

The CFO of Apple says there are 125 million iCloud users http://techcrunch.com/2012/04/24/icloud-now-has-125-million-users-says-apple-cfo -oppenheimer/

That is 1,375,000 REALLY annoyed Apple users..the day before a big launch..Ouch...

no email all day? ***

Just spoke to Apple Care. Nice guy. Certainly not his fault.

All he could say was that engineering is working on it.

Again, folks should send feedback to Apple here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

Rather than just complaining, I tried to offer up advice. For example, I suggested that they should revamp their status update system, and either provide more meaningful information, or nothing at all. The same status updates repeating hour after hour is almost insulting.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm ****** off. More than 30 hours without email is an egregious mistake. But you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Lexington Tutoring, LLC uses both gmail and me.com.

1.We have our Microsoft Office for MAC 2011 preferences set to receive emails sent to both to the same outbox. The gmail account is only a backup for us, as we find the iCloud options to be more robust and attractive.

We have our gmail preferences set to POP (on your computer) and IMAP (web mail) in the following way:

  • Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 2/27/11
  • Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>Status: IMAP is enabled --Enable IMAP
  • When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted: Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default)

2. During the outage, we used the web mail (IMAP) gmail

This didn't totally eliminate teeth gnashing during the outage, but it did help us to maintain good service to our students and their parents while iCloud mail was down, as we notified everyone to temporarily use our gmail address and then, when service was restored, asked them to revert to our me.com address. I've heard that gmail can also experience outages but I don't recall them having had one in the 4 years we've been using the above system.

We are still hoping that someone will tell us about a better alternative to either gmail or me.com. Anyone have one?

I was down a month when they switched to MobileMe. I seem to always be in the <1% when it comes to Apple problems. I was at the Apple Store yesterday, as my wife's Mac wouldn't let her send e-mails due to the switch from MobileMe to iCloud. Her account is still working today.

I use my email for business and this is killing me. It doesn't matter who you use today gmail and yahoo passwords are comprised all the time. I just expect more from Apple, as they charge for their service and then leave their customers hanging.

Without e-mail for 7 hours in Wheaton, IL.

although I think it is completely non-professional to shut down people's email (as well as shut down their retail store), I'm thinking it could be related to a major update for their product launch tomorrow. if it is, hopefully this will never happen again. but Apple never tells you anything, and mobileme mail was never down this long.

Feel better I'm not the only one, but JEEZ, makes me want to throw all my apple gear out the window. I just changed all passwords and all that nonsense, thinking I was the only one, wasted a huge percentage of my evening off fiddling about with stooooopid icloud nonsense. Drives me potty. London is down. At least, my little cul de sac of it is.

I've been tearing my hair out today because my iPads Mail app wont send or receive from my ISPs mail servers. I switch off iCloud Mail and now I can send and receive again properly on my ISP's servers.

Why is this iCloud outage affecting my other pop3 accounts in the Mail app?

I'm in London, UK and iCloud mail has been down all day.
