I updated iTunes (10.7) and now iPhone Configuration Utility will not run.

I update iTunes to 10.7 today and now the iPhone configuration utility configuration utility will not run. It doesn't give an error message. Nothing happens.

I tried uninstalling both applications and re-installing them. Still doesn't fix the problem. This is on a Win 7 SP1 32 bit system. Anyone else seen this yet?

You can get iTunes 10.6.3 also by going to Apple website - support - search with "10.6.3" if it is not this version what you need to download old iTunes:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427

You may need to do this after going back to 10.6.3 from 10.7:

http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/22/fix-the-itunes-library-itl-cannot-be-read-version -error-when-downgrading-itunes/

When I installed iTunes 10.6.3 back, connected with cable, during the cable connection then switched on the Wifi syncronizing and after that installed iTunes 10.7, I was able to syncronize my iPhone 4S with iTunes 10.7 with WiFi but not with cable.

Here's how to get iPCU working again until we can release a new version of iPCU which is compatible with the version of Apple Mobile Device Support included with iTunes 10.7:

1) Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

2) Uninstall iPCU

3) Reinstall iPCU

Step 1) may cause iTunes 10.7 not to work properly with connected devices. If so, you would then also need to uninstall iTunes 10.7 and reinstall iTunes 10.6.3.

Okay I got this working with minimal fuss. Here's what you have to do:

1. Download the iPhone Configuration Utility 3.5 installer for Windows, but don't install.

2. Download 7-zip and install it

3. Open the iPhoneConfigUtilitySetup.exe in 7-zip and extract the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (version 5.1.1.4) installer.

4. Open AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi in 7-zip and find and extract MobileDevice.dll (version 507.7.0.1) and copy it to the iPhone Configuration Utility folder (for me it is "C:\Program Files\iPhone Configuration Utility". It's the folder that has iPCU.exe in it). Do NOT copy it into the Mobile Device Support folder.

Basically IPCU needs the old version of MobileDevice.dll.

That's it. Now both IPCU and iTunes 7 should work without having to keep moving files around. At least it does for me.

Edit:

If you don't feel like going through the above steps, I uploaded the old MobileDevice.dll to Dropbox so you can simply grab it from https://www.dropbox.com/s/lzr2rcz3i5zmb6o/MobileDevice.dll

I updated iTunes (10.7) and now iPhone Configuration Utility will not run.
