You should contact Apple and order a replacement set of the original discs, a retail disc will not contain the apps that originally accompanied the Mac. They will need the machine serial number.
Then you should follow this procedure, Boot from disc 1 of the set, use Disk Utility (from the DVD) to erase the internal hard drive and reinstall the operating system, you will have 10.6.3. Then you need to update it to 10.6.8 (software update) and using the App Store (which will be installed) update further to the level you want (assuming your Mac can support it)
Then it's your Mac.
Someplace in here (these responses & replies don't stay together either - just like my saved files 🙂 I did give the info; did you see it? As far as apps - I'm not big on them, have almost none on on my iphone. Do I really need them? What do they do for a computer? and can I simply get comparable free apps if needed?
Apps/Programs are 2 words for the same thing, so you're not big on programs?
What you intend to do will decide what programs (apps) you need to do it with.
