I rented a movie on iTunes and a little bit after it started to download, it said that I could play the movie. I hit play and the movie screen popped up but stayed black and at 0:00. I am pitching a fit if I can't end up watching this movie within my now 23 hours of rental time.

If you go to the movie or TV show in your library and drag it onto your desktop, then play it through quicktime, that worked for me.
Well, it is now 2017, and this problem still exists. I tried to download a movie before my flight and all I get is a black screen and broken tools. Apple is such garbage.
