Why is ATH.exe using 50% of my CPU?

This started recently, I think there was some quicktime upgrade that happened. I've rebooted my computer and the problem persists. I've found similar discussions referring to AppleMobileDeviceService, but I don't know if this is that issue or something else.

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

Only antivirus is MS security essentials and TrustedID SecureScan (made by Immunet?). TIA

Process explorer shows PID 7988

Windows 7

I cant belive this thread is one year old and there is no solution!

I have a pretty strong Ailienware PC and ATH.exe consumes 25-30% of the CPU at all times.

It really ***** up everything else I try to do and as otheres pointed out, syncing over WiFi is a good thing, I dont want to turn it off, but I have to because I cant even write a letter as everything I do gets delayed.

Apple should realy put someone on this and solve the problem.

I'm running iTunes 11.0.5 and no, updates have not fixed the problem.

Adding my voice to this thread. Apple broke wi-fi synching with iTunes 10.7 and while the symptoms have changed somewhat, the problem persists. This outrageous consumption of CPU bandwidth is new to me. What has been consistent is that the Applemobiledevice only allows synching with my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 for a few minutes. Past that window, iTunes can't find my devices and CPU usage skyrockets.

In other words, it's been completely broken for well over a year with no fix in sight. As far as I know, Apple hasn’t even acknowledged the existence of the problem despite there being so many threads about this. I'm feeling an Android coming into my life as I contemplate replacing my iPhone 4.

On the contrary I am making the point that at 24 hours post-update it is simply too early to tell.

Almost everyone who has reported their reinstallation experience of any version of iTunes since the issue was first discovered has found that the problem would not reoccur until 48 - 72 hours after reinstallation of iTunes & then they were back to where they started with ATH.exe exhibiting exactly the same behaviour as before.

Consquently reports that the problem has been fixed after a system has only been running for 24 hours after being updated are completely meaningless.

If you want add something to these forums report your experience after 72 hours. That would be meaningful.
