I dropped my iPhone and now it won't turn on

Hi All,

I dropped my iPhone this morning and now it won't turn on. It was fully charged. Originally, I could see that when I pressed the buttons the screen would light up faintly (although nothing was showing on the screen). I then pressed and held the home button and the on/off button to reset it. After I did this nothing happened and the screen no longer lights up faintly. It is completly dead. Does anyone have any solutions for me? Any other tricks I can try?

It sounds like when it was dropped, something messed with the display and now it isn't connected to the screen correctly.

Try connecting it to the computer and restoring, but the restore will wipe the phone. If it is recognized, back up the device first by right clicking on the device and choosing back up. If the restore fixes it, congrats. That means it was a software issue.

If not, it's the hardware and needs to be looked at. Repaired or replaced.

But I'm leaning towards hardware. iPhones are fragile.

I also dropped my phone this morning and was in a complete panic - I researched a solution on my iPad. Taseraq's solution is brilliant. It worked perfectly and everything is back to normal. Thank you for the fantastic advice I.e. Hold down the on off button and the home button together for 20-30 seconds and the phone comes to life. A techno miracle!

Never bothered to post a comment on such site but iPhone is something else and want to share my experience and what worked for me.

Came on this page looking for help thru google on the subject of this thread but my problem or situation appeared to be relatively unique/weird. So here are the details:

My iPhone/problem: 4S, locked to a UK service provider (T-Mobile), got unlocked thru GeVe insertion/sim; was using Facetime when dropped with 60% battery remaining, dropped it from a height of about 4.5 feet on a hard tiled floor with significant impact. phone immediately went dead with black screen and without any crack of scratch on the front;

Solution: came on this page looking for a possible solution, tried various ones including the one mentioned by Taseraq (so far the most popular one on this thread!) with various time-duration combinations; no results......:(

Then attached the phone to computer, a bit weird looking battery sign appeared on the black screen and immediately disappeared, pressed on/off button but no life in the phone yet, again checked after about 6-7 minutes, battery charging sign would appear for a moment and screen would go black/dead again; left phone in this condition (connected to computer (until now charged only about 3% during all this time!)) for a total time of about 15 minutes; suddenly familiar Apple sign automatically lights up the black screen and I am back to life..........but not yet......as it wont connect to the my current network I am using and keep on searching and searching.

For the final push; removed the SIM along with the GeVe and inserted it again and it got connected to my current network within seconds!

My assessment/conclusion: the sudden drop impact caused the more than 60% remaining batter to drain to the hilt eitherdirectly or indirectly thru interference with the software.

I know this is already solved, but I had a similar issue with a different cause. I dropped my 5s flat on its face and it refused to turn on, even with hard reset. Strangely, it also didn't register with my computer when I connected it. My digitizer was loose, and I had to take off the screen and re-secure the digitizer connection. This fixed both problems--the phone turned on, and it was recognized by my computer.

Yesss! Thank you, thank you guys! I as well kept holding in the home & power buttons, but only for a few seconds - but I then read the post again and saw to do so for about 10-15 seconds. Feeling not-so-hopeful, and very sad (I love my phone!), I held the two buttons in...waited...waited...was just about to let go when, yay! The apple logo! I leaped up from my desk at work and practically kissed the salesman standing next to me! It works perfectly. I am soooo happy! Thank you!

Curious though as to why that worked? Weird.

There is no way for us to help you with what appears to be a hardware problem on a user to user support forum. Have you taken it to Apple to see what they think? If the repair shop you took it to opened the device, then Apple will not look at it, but if not, then I would suggest you get their opinion. But it is going to require a hands-on inspection.

Same problem i had, around mid night i dropped my phone and then i was not turning on. I kept it on charging and it started giving distorted display like in old games when game will be corrupted so it was keep on giving moving from upside to downside of screen, moving image of apple logo and hello was written next. But in the morning i woke up and then i read in some other forums that ipad display was working when somebody slapped ipad on their hand. I tried it and after that my iphone started light and bright like nothing happened.

So, if you have same issue you can try this with patience.

Good luck.
