iPhone 5 "Preparing for Shipment" Status

Just in case anyone was wondering about the status of their shipment. If you have a status that says, "Preparing for Shipment," it most likely has shipped via UPS. In order to find out for sure:

-Go to UPS.com

-Track by Reference

-Type in your phone number, Country and zip code

It will pull up your tracking number and package. Here, it will tell you that it will delivered on the 21st by the end of the day. However, you might also notice that shipment progress hasn't been updated and there is a reason for this. UPS has a message specifically for the iPhone 5, which I pasted below.

Important information for iPhone Customers

Apple has required that UPS deliver iPhone shipments to customers on and not before Friday, September 21, 2012. iPhone’s are scheduled for Friday, September 21 2012 and have a delivery commitment of the end of day.

Why isn't my package moving? The packages are being staged in key locations and moved on a coordinated schedule for delivery on the shipper's planned release date, Friday, September 21, 2012.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this for anyone who was wondering about the status.

called apple and ******* and the 1st moron i spoke to said "sometimes these errors happen. and we dont have a solution for this. apple miscalculated the demand for this product." when i ripped her a new one she transferred me after a 40 minute wait at 11:30 pm to chris who is calling me back tomorrow to forward my call to sales support and his words of wisdom "we overbooked the deliveries of this product. unfortunately yes you are potentially in the next shipment of deliveries." i of course flipped a lid and let him know that i could have walked a mile at 545 am this morning, been 2nd in line at the ardmore apple store and f ' ing bought one on my own and not wasted a whole god d@mn day waiting for a phone that i got my *** up at 4 am 7 days prior to "pre-order" and wasted the last hour on hold waiting for you to tell me you that your company screwed up, lied and now cant do a thing about it after i waited on hold for 40 minutes. chris's response, " while i understand your displeasure unfortunately there is nothing i can do for you at this time as the office is closed. ill take your name and number and call you tomorrow when i get in at 1pm. what is your serial #." my response," i dont have a serial number!!!!!! i didnt get my flipping phone!!!!!!!!!! if i had an iphone 5 serial # we wouldn't be talking. hello- that's why im calling you!!!!!!"

the pure irony of this whole story is my husband is a manager at the company and the only reason im not complaining to him is that he is out of town on business!

Oh my God, you people are awful. You really chewed out a customer service representative over this? I was disappointed too, as I'm on second batch and will be receiving on the 5th of October, but come on...did you really think Apple would be able to handle that kind of volume? The amount they sold was unprecedented. Two million units in an hour. If you purchased an hour after it was released in your region, you're in second batch, which has the Oct. 5 delivery date. Yes, they promised everyone a 21st delivery, but that promise was based on a certain expected demand, which just did not happen. And it isn't the best situation, but don't be so ridiculous. They're not going to give you a priority spot (because yes, you are in second batch now) they cannot make because you are one of the thousands of other cusomers who probably called and angrily complained. Wow. /endrant

Anyway, the second batch (5th of October) has been marked as "Preparing for Shipment." I came to this thread to see if anyone had any information on how long that would take. Surely it wouldn't be a two-week process from now until my phone's on my doorstep, right? If you can't edit your order, it has to be in the box and ready to be sent out by now, it seems. Basically just crossing my fingers that Oct. 5 is a very estimated date, rather than a practical one, and that my phone will be here sooner.

I tried this on UPS and it didn't find anything. I have been waiting the 3 weeks and my status has said Pending Shipment for a week now. Does anyone know another way to check? I have been told by AT&T that it will ship between today and next Friday. I am just wondering if the rumors that I am hearing are true that they can't find enough product to make them now. I am really tired of waiting when I keep seeing people post they have theirs. I am just so ready to be using the iphone 5 rather than my 3. It is so slow.
