I can search and browse apps, books and music, but I can't download any. Itunes is kind a system application and cannot be deleted.
I have the same problem with my iPad. Can not connect to Itunes Store since beginning of this week - October 1. I have tried all suggestions in this thread without any success.
When changing the date to a future date and back and the try to update apps it takes longer than before I get the error message.
I can not download new apps either!
Can it be related to the latest installed app? Latest installed app for med is Bad Piggies HD.
Okay now got it work! I changed the DNS server from Settings>Wifi. then click the '>' button after your wifi network and change DNS to 8.8.8.8 . Now works fine! Have no idea why it helps, because default DNS setups works in iphone 5. But try this.

This date time fix does not always work, nor does switching restrictions on and off.
When in the AppStore, go to the 'purchased' apps tab. When that has fully loaded, try going to the upgrades tab and try the upgrades again as this worked for me.
Another one that worked is to go in to your settings ... AppStore.... And sign out of your iTunes accounts then back in to it. Worked like a charm for me when everything else failed.
Personally, from the fixes I have seen and issues encountered, I think the iTunes Store is not able to handle all the requests from across the world, as it seems like it times out rather than actually being a specific error?
I have Ipad3 and updated to ios6 and now cannot connect to iTunes Store. I tried turning off auto time, set date 1 year ahead, tried switching iPad off and back on again, did all this several times and still not working. How can I roll back to ios5?
I did evreything you could've imagined... I changed the date to 2013, nothing happened. What i did was sign out of apple in appstore, reset the ipad (hold lock&home button) and then signed back into apple on my settings screen and it updated. Hope it helps

I just had the "can't connect to the itunes store" message with my new iphone 5. MY FIRST iphone ?????? I followed the directions on this site and put the date ahead a year and amazingly it worked and everything seems ok for the moment. Than you for the tip. Many times "tips" get you further in trouble (or I don't understand them) and this one was easy and RIGHT....Thank You Thank You Thank You
I had the same problem just now. Thanks to the posts here, I played around with the time setting the time for two days forward (couldn't connect), then set it for two years forward (still couldn't connect), then I set it to two days BEFORE today and I was finally able to connect to the iTunes store. Thanks to everyone who shared their problem and shared how to solve the issue.
The fix works for me, but I have to do it everytime again and again if I want to download an app or an update. Very annoying...Is this fix suppose to be a permanent solution?
