I'm also still struggeling with this problem. I also reinstalled my whole iPhone 4s, but after a couple of days, the problem came back. I found out, that whenever the problem appears it helps to change the DNS server settings to another public DNS server (e,.g. Google. 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 or OpenDNS). After changing the settings, I need to restart the appstore app on my iPhone. This let me install approx. 4-5 updates or apps from the appstore until the problem reappears. There are many lists of public DNS servers in the internet available, just google for it (e.g. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm)

In order to get rid of this annoying error message, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Date and Time
  4. Turn ‘Set Automatically’ to Off
  5. Manually change the year to 2013
  6. Again Open Settings
  7. Tap iCloud
  8. Turn Passbook option Off
  9. Return to Settings > General >Date and Time and turn ‘Set Automatically to On
  10. Try updating again.

Am sure it will help you to sort this issue.

Sometimes the DNS Issue can be so persistent as the wrong iTunes Store download IP is stuck in your device's cache or even in your router even if you click on Forget this Network and reconnecting again. Try connecting instead to another network such as at work, at Starbucks, or any other free network to see if this clears the DNS information that your device is using.

I had "cannot connect to itunes" on my iphone 5 when trying to update an app. I tried the fix as mentioned but it didn't work. I did the following:

Settings > Itunes & app stores > clicked on my apple ID and signed out.

I could then update my app through the app store. I then logged back in my apple ID (it asked for card security again) and it seems to be fine.

Hi everybody. I have had this issue time and time again. Here is a solution that worked for me. Go to the App Store. Click "Purchases" instead of "Update". Each app that needs updating will have the iCloud symbol next to it. Tap the symbol. You will be prompted to enter your Apple Password. Once you enter it once you will be able to update each app. Some apps will begin "installing" on their own while others will go to the apps page. If so, tap the "install" button. It should change to state " update". Tap again and your apps will update. Apparently this is Apple's way of ensuring that you have legally acquired the apps by only allowing them to update thru iCloud. Hope this helps.

@ms.x5: You wrote << Go to the App Store. Click "Purchases" instead of "Update." >> The problem with this is that when the error is occurring I am unable to access both the Apple Store and iTunes. That is the whole problem we are trying to address. Are you advocating doing this preventively when the phone is working properly (which wasn't possible before Apple replaced my phone)?
