IOS 6 Error - Unable to install update

So I ask this...*** is the point of OTA update, if you need to connect it to iTunes and do it that way???

Sounds like Steve Balmer was head of this upgrade planning.

Yeah, I'm having the issue too....a 16GB wifi. What a joke and I bet every iPad I support will have the same stupid issue.

Same problem here updating from the iPad2 itself. Trying with iTunes now.

I have a similar problem, installed with the USB cord, then got "an error occured" message and I tunes said i have to do a Restore. I continued and half way through the restore I get "an error occured" again.... MY IPHONE IS SCREWED!!!! I can't restart it now, everytime I turn it on all I get it the USB pplug symbol and the Itunes logo...I can not get out of the circle of "restore, error, restore, error......." aghhhhhh

I have the same problem with my iPad2. Tried updating with the USB cord. The whole 790MB file downloaded too. Then, an error msg. The screen shows the USB plug and iTunes logo. When I try restarting it by long-pressing it still shows the same symbols. No change. And iTunes is not even detecting the device now.

I'm going to call Apple tomorrow and give them ****. I need my phone for work and with out it I might as well not go to work!

Is your iphone synced with 2 computers? I had the exact same problem as you. On top of that my iphone was synced with 2 comps. After the 1st on didn't work I tried using the second one to update and it worked.

Update suceeded using iTunes, everything is fine now.

I don't know if this will work for others, but I was updating my iPhone via USB cord (plugged into my Apple keyboard). And when I tried to update to iOS 6, everything went through, the install began, right to the end of the update and install on the phone, and then the message came up "iTunes cannot install... blah, blah, blah... error (6)".

So I unplugged the USB via keyboard, quit out of everything, restarted the computer, opened iTunes again, and plugged the USB cable into a rear port on my Mac. It opened the phone up and finished the install with no problem.

The issue, at least for me, appeared that the USB port in my keyboard wasn't able to support a software update this large. For those with similar errors and setups, give it a shot. Good luck, all!

Same problem with me... I downloaded iOS 6 over wifi (IPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1) and I just cannot install it... I will try with iTunes a little bit later tonight and see what happens... But yeah it's pretty useless to have updates over wifi if it doesn't work !!!!

And BTW ... Apple... If every user of IPhone 4 trying to update through Wifi has to download it twice... That's a TON of wasted bandwith !!! =)

Having the same problem ... Don't wanna update my iPad by connecting it with iTunes . How to rectify the error message ?

The install worked using iTunes.

whew it seems I am not alone. I thought my ipad2 updated fine last night but today I found all sorts of things wrong with it from "Music" app losing the iCloud icon so i can't tell what is downloaded and what is on cloud, songs that can't be deleted, app store giving me blank screen. then to make it worse I tried a PC usb cable sync and it bricked the thing! Now it keeps saying I must restore it but keeps failing with error codes despite the download supposedly working.

I think the servers are too jammed and we perhaps are getting incomplete or corrupted downloads of the ios thus it errors out. Maybe after a day it will work - I hope so because otherwise this is an expensive brick!!

My issue is I can't install it at all on my iPad 2. I see the update there but it's in Grey form and it won't go Dark Grey to install it. I've tried rebooting and plugging in and out. Nothing seems to work. Got it installed on my iPhone 4S with no issue.
