New Maps App on iOS 6 - poor resolution?

Is it just me, or is the Satellite image resolution unusably low in the new maps app?

In major UK cities its ok (but not great) but in a large town (pop 400k+) it's terrible.

What's your experience?

iPhone 4S, Other OS, iOS 6

It's quite rubbish in the UK.

Lots of it in black and white or very low-res.

My home town (pop. 25k) is labelled about a mile North of where it should be, and a sub-district of my home town is in the place of the center of my town!

Apple has ALOT of work to do before iOS 6 Maps is anything like the quality of Google Maps.

The 3D Maps in big cities are impressive though - shame I don't live in one.

My city is represented by b/w blurry picture with 3(!) streets. I don't know how many streets in our city are, but giving its size >300.000, believe me there is much more :((

Software updates of 2012 are crap. I had to roll back to 10.6 because of the heavy bugs in 10.8, which cause my 7-month old MBP to hang many times a day, now I dream of rolling my ipad and iphone back to ios5, or, better ios4 (because ios5 is very slow and unstable, too)

Reply from Canada, just adding my voice about this horrible maps app on the new iPad os. I want google maps back. I use street view all the time on my iPad and this new thing is useless. I'd rather have no maps than that app, it is taking up space on my iPad and will never be used. If anyone from apple is listening, give us google maps back now!

Google has had thousands of people working on their mapping applications for years now, it's been a long and difficult ride for them to get this far. There's been a very significant amount of backbreaking manual labour that's gone into ensuring the accuracy of google's maps.

I'm beyond surprised that Apple's allowed such shoddy work in such a highly visible application when they booted out google maps and brought in their own.

According to Maps, I Iive in a puffy white cloud on Hawai'i.

Agree whole-heartedly with an earlier post: don't take out your hatred of Google/Android on your customers.

I wonder, was this one of Jobs' dying wishes, to have Google removed from iOS? It's hard to believed. Jobs loathed Microsoft with a passion, but even he permitted Microsoft Office products to run on Mac, and for iTunes to run on Windows.

Hopefully we'll get a few thousand more posts on here to convince them to pull their heads out of their behinds.

Maybe the plan is that they replace street view with us all taking a 360 degree image of the place we live, using our latest panoramic view feature. This will then be uploaded to the Apple maps service and become the 'lets do mapping on the cheap feature'. If they expect me to somehow levitate above my street though for the satellite view then I'm afraid they're pushing this user content way too far!

I have the same issues with the app; resolution is poor, location accuracy is poor, maps are really lacking detail, no street view, places missing, search is poor etc etc etc. Apple have scored a real own goal with this release. Why are they trying to outdo google....harks back to the 90's and the complete mess apple got into with the fight against microsoft. They should stick to what they are good at and let google and others into the fold and not try to bully them them out, leaving the customer base with second best! Google maps, Google+ should be part of IOS IMHO.

I had cause to use the navigation feature of the maps this week, I travel about Scotland for work, now whilst the actual image data is quite low resolution, the actual app itself is not bad at all. I was able to locate the silly wee place I had to travel to quite easily and navigate there and back. Im going to use the navigation feature as much as I can, for places that are wrong im going to report it to Apple. Thats what they said to do, so Im going to do it.

Google earth/maps were pretty poor when they first came out too, so perhaps it will take time for Apple to sort it all out. However I still think they should have left google maps on iOS. didnt Microsoft get forced to allow other browsers into Windows after all?

Im not defending one of if not the biggest & richest company in the world releasing a sub standard map application, but if they say itll get better as its used, then so be it.
