New Maps App on iOS 6 - poor resolution?

Is it just me, or is the Satellite image resolution unusably low in the new maps app?

In major UK cities its ok (but not great) but in a large town (pop 400k+) it's terrible.

What's your experience?

iPhone 4S, Other OS, iOS 6

It's quite rubbish in the UK.

Lots of it in black and white or very low-res.

My home town (pop. 25k) is labelled about a mile North of where it should be, and a sub-district of my home town is in the place of the center of my town!

Apple has ALOT of work to do before iOS 6 Maps is anything like the quality of Google Maps.

The 3D Maps in big cities are impressive though - shame I don't live in one.

People using it is not going to improve the resolution, where did I allegedly say that??. People using it will improve the location services as they report missing features. What I said was that the actual navigation app, in my usage this week, has been 'not bad at all'. In actual fact, its been just as good as, in fact better (as the map, and youll get a kick out of this, was more recent) than my actual sat nav device that I use in the car.

I had cause to use the navigation feature of the maps this week, I travel about Scotland for work, now whilst the actual image data is quite low resolution, the actual app itself is not bad at all. I was able to locate the silly wee place I had to travel to quite easily and navigate there and back. Im going to use the navigation feature as much as I can, for places that are wrong im going to report it to Apple. Thats what they said to do, so Im going to do it.

Google earth/maps were pretty poor when they first came out too, so perhaps it will take time for Apple to sort it all out. However I still think they should have left google maps on iOS. didnt Microsoft get forced to allow other browsers into Windows after all?

Im not defending one of if not the biggest & richest company in the world releasing a sub standard map application, but if they say itll get better as its used, then so be it.

As for the horrible resolution of maps, only Apple can improve that by adding new maps (something i seriously doubt will happen)

And as for me irritating you?? Please!

It's all just a blur. Why aren't there any responses from Apple to this?

If you want a response from Apple, contact them directly, as I have done, dont just whine in a forum. Then, when they dont get back to you (as they havent in my case), you can moan about them not responding.

I didnt realise this was the sort of petty forum where idiots moan at other users.

And unicorns will fly around sprinkling pixie dust too.

The fact is that they replaced something that works, with something that doesn't.

There's absolutely no time-line other than their vague PR spiel about "maps will get better with use" which means squat. Will it take a month? A year? Five? And what do you do until then?

Anyway, it tells me my house is on an airport runway.

For a company that prides itself on the best user experience, this huge step back without customer alternatives is a failure on many levels and doesn't inspire confidence in their future commitment to excellence after the Jobs era.

"So be it" is not an acceptable excuse to many of us.

Well I was concerned that with the new turn by turn function of maps that I would have no use for the navigon app I purchased years ago with my first iPhone. I'm glad to see that I certainly still need it because this new maps app is total crap. Yet more proof that the king is dead and the post Steve Jobs era apple won't take long to follow. Hopefully Microsoft will pick up the ball and score big with their new mobile OS.

I live in São Paulo, and I use public transportation. Without Google Maps on my iPhone I could never have found the right bus to go somewhere, now I am screwed with Apple Maps as it does not help me find the bus line as before with Google Maps, instead it directs me to the Apps store so I can buy an app which will supposedly help me do that.

Pathetic... If this is the way Apple is going to conduct business from now on, I am starting to look for Android alternatives.

Has the resolution dropped in the last week ? - 25th Feb 2013 to 4th March 2012

Only when I looked at a particular location in Hereford, UK last week it was in High Res, but today the same location is now really low res ???

If I go either side by a few miles it reverts to High Res or if I zoom out, but when I zoom in to this particular location it goes really bad, I just don't understand it.

I have tried quiting the app and turning off the iPad2, but no joy, latest version of iOS 6.
