New Maps App on iOS 6 - poor resolution?

Is it just me, or is the Satellite image resolution unusably low in the new maps app?

In major UK cities its ok (but not great) but in a large town (pop 400k+) it's terrible.

What's your experience?

iPhone 4S, Other OS, iOS 6

It's quite rubbish in the UK.

Lots of it in black and white or very low-res.

My home town (pop. 25k) is labelled about a mile North of where it should be, and a sub-district of my home town is in the place of the center of my town!

Apple has ALOT of work to do before iOS 6 Maps is anything like the quality of Google Maps.

The 3D Maps in big cities are impressive though - shame I don't live in one.

That's actually really good quality compare to the results I'm getting. I seem to live in the middle of a large green blob. There is not a single distinguishable feature there. I can make out a river or canal in your map 🙂

I've been having a look around the images in London and they are really impressive. I can see where Apple want to go with maps. However, it's just not ready yet. I do wonder if we would've seen this release had Steve Jobs still be around at Apple. I have a feeling he would've looked at this and realised that they were attempting to release an incomplete product.

Same in Germany. Very poor resolution e.g. in Dortmund, a >500k city! The city names appear far to late (you have to zoom in nearly to maximum to make them appear), also no StreetView. Fly-over is nice, but it's just a "nice-to-have", there is no real use of it (and it's no available to most of the cities).

I really ike iOS 6 - but Maps is a big step backwards. And Google Maps had been a real killer app with the introduction of iPhone back in 2007. GIVE US BACK GOOGLE MAPS, please! 😮

I have the same issue with my cycle meter app. The mapped routes were awesome and now they are terrible looking. I also have a golf GPS app which is around £10 per annum for the basic version ( or £75pa for the pro option ). One of the courses I regularly play is now covered with a thick blanket of cloud. Totally useless. Apple needs to get their act together.

I downloaded the update last night because I seen the iphone5 advert and thought the maps looked amazing with great detail. I'm regretting this now.

It's terrible how apple used the new maps as part of its marketing for the new iPhone and they don't flipping work.

wow ...i got my new ios6 passbook to hold my boarding pass ooooooo ; right!! now all i need is to get to the airport .....maps to the rescue!

(just in case:that's sarcasm apple ... because i have my doubts that anyone who releases such a substandard 'upgrade' without realising how poor it is can realise when sarcasm is being used)

oh well looks like apple could be another company who takes their customer's loyalty and market share for granted .like Nokia did.
