New Maps App on iOS 6 - poor resolution?

Is it just me, or is the Satellite image resolution unusably low in the new maps app?

In major UK cities its ok (but not great) but in a large town (pop 400k+) it's terrible.

What's your experience?

iPhone 4S, Other OS, iOS 6

It's quite rubbish in the UK.

Lots of it in black and white or very low-res.

My home town (pop. 25k) is labelled about a mile North of where it should be, and a sub-district of my home town is in the place of the center of my town!

Apple has ALOT of work to do before iOS 6 Maps is anything like the quality of Google Maps.

The 3D Maps in big cities are impressive though - shame I don't live in one.

Maps a huge bust!! Apple what have you done!!!!

Perhaps for the few areas of the globe that can benefit from "Flyover" the new Apple Maps app is a hit, however, for the rest of the world, at least in Canada, it is nothing short of atrocious.

Not only is the presentation unabashedly poor in Maps but other apps, like weather programs, which now utilize a version of this app, now have the same incredibly poor presentation.

My four year old car TomTom looks better. Whatever mapping system you used before - bring it back.

I don't have much to add apart from my local pizza shop has moved to the funeral directors??? Me thinks apple have a little work to do....

Any one worked out how to set Siri up to show the films of a certain cinema? If I ask "films showing" it works but shows a cinema I don't go to? There must be a setting, I have added the cinema I use to my contacts in the hope it would cross reference but it does not :-(

There isn't one currently and who knows, with the poor relationship between them, there might not be one.

The resolution is shockingly bad - it's like the old sat images from 10+yrs ago. There's no streetview equivalent either. The flyover stuff is pretty but it's useless for practical purposes.

I'm disappointed. This is my first Apple product. I've had for a little over a month and was very impressed with it up until now.

What other qualities are they prepared to compromise as part of their ongoing squabble with other businesses?

I'm assuming it's impossible to revert to the previois iOS?

Yes - go to safari search for google maps and go to the google maps webpage, when this opens it will ask to use your location and then it will display how to add the app to your homepage.

I've done it for my iphone and son's ipad. Just like old times I can see home crystal clear again, come to think of it I can see anywhere in the UK crystal clear again.

Apple Maps is very nice in San Francisco, unfortunately I'm not there. Hopefully with time (and not too much of that) they may get the rest of the world up to standard. Please Jony Ive make UK a priority!
