Do Not Disturb not working iOS 6

Updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 about 90 minutes ago and have been looking through the new features since.

Do Not Disturb is not working, I've set the schedule (in notifications) and switched on in settings but phone rings normally despite being in the quiet period. Anyone else having the same problem?

Wow, you're about as rude as they come, aren't you?

You assert that I misunderstand the whole concept, while you - of course, understand it perfectly - right?

So if I don't want to be bothered by emails, notifications, my turn on Words With Friends, or text messages while I am busy working using my phone, I guess too bad, huh?

Did you ever once think that this could be useful for when you're using your iPad in a meeting to present material and you don't want your board of directors to see a text from your cousin Jimmy? Or a Skype call from your Aunt Sally? Or a notification from Game Center? Gee, I would call that being DISTURBED while I am BUSY.

Switching it to silent does NOT keep the messages and phone calls from coming thru. It just does not alert thru the speaker. I would still say that I'm being disturbed.

If you feel ok with the current limitations than that is fine for you. But some of us can see the potential for improvement to make this feature more useful.

We are simply having a (written) conversation, I have no idea what I said to upset you, I don't remember calling you anything inappropriate. And yes, based on what you wrote on your previous comments, I still believe you don't understand the meaning of this feature, and I am not going to debate over each and every different application these devices have

The bottom line is if you don't like it, don't use it, and if you have any suggestions you believe are worth a shot, please feel free to send them to Apple. That's all.

And please forgive me if I said anything to upset you

If the meaning of this feature is to only not disturb you when want to go to sleep, then that is a very limited and narrow capability.

What if I am running a bedside clock application that displays the time when I am sleeping? My phone is going to ring and notifications are going to come through because it doesn't meet the current requirement that the phone be locked and screen off. So, I am still "sleeping" but it disturbs me anyway. So I still don't understand the meaning? If so, the meaning is flawed.

You cannot assume that "you can only not want to be disturbed if the phone is locked and the screen is dark."

I work in software development - there are often times things that can be done to improve a current feature or make it more useful without taking away its current functionality.

I think having a "When locked only" ON/OFF switch on the DND settings screen would be a huge benefit. You would certainly be welcome to leave it ON.

I have to 100% agree with Frank. Apple took a feature everyone wanted and made it only applicable in a narrow set of circumstances.

What about the 3rd party alarm clock apps that so many people use for getting up every day? I use alarm clock pro, it is awesome, and by the definition of the DND feature offered here, it is useless for blocking notices when using this app.

It is halfway there and incomplete; allowing for it to be used while the phone is unlocked will do the trick.

Ideally, I would like to have my alarm clock app be able to turn it on and off; that would make it ideal.

You should make your (in my opinion, good) suggestions about how you would like the feature to work directly to Apple. This is the first iteration. It's bound to go through some changes.

I'm hoping the feature will evolve to allow it to work even when the screen is unlocked as well.

Best of luck.

This would be an awesome option to have with the DND setting. I use Alarm Clock HD http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alarm-clock-hd/id441922503?mt=8 but since the phone is unlocked while this application runs through the night the Do Not Disturb function does not work as I would like it. I get email notifications (that I like to have otherwise) through the night as well as phone calls and iMessages. Having the lock/unlocked option added to the DND would be perfect!!

Personally, I use do not disturb in math class, to use the calculator. I don't want anything, notifications, reminders, phone calls, texts, calendar events, etc. to make any noise or even vibrate. I found out the hard way that alarms will go off even if the screen isn't on (with DND on). Luckily my teacher forgave me, but I power off my phone all day now (quite useless to check emails or messages between classes). I wish Apple would just make it clear what turned off what. If I turn down the ringer all the way, and mute the phone, and use do not disturb, will siri still speak loudly? Again, I found out the hard way that she will. Couldn't they make just one volume control and one scheduled absolute mute?

With a normal company that's not the most highly-profitable in the world, I'd agree that suggestions could be submitted to them. But in paying a premium for software and hardware, to a company with an astronomical valuation based on ease of use and utiility - I'd say, no, Apple doesn't deserve us doing its work for them. I'd prefer they solve the software problems before release from their corporate virtual state. They've already got the money; they just need to do the work.
