wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

I have two iOS devices that I sync via wifi. One is an iPhone 4 and the other is an iPad 2. Both are at 6.0.1. I sync with my macbook pro 10.8.2 itunes 10.7 (21).

I have done everything in this thread and definitely saw some improvement after setting the HostName on my mac and changing the Search Domains in the wifi on the iOS devices to "local".

Virtually every time I start itunes, my iphone 4 shows up (not EVERY time - just almost every time).

The ipad 2 is more inconsistent, but it seems to respond to changes in whether it is connected to the power supply or not. Paradoxically, it will show up in itunes more often than not when it is NOT plugged into power. And if it doesn't show up, I can usually get it to show up by either plugging it in, or first un-plugging and then re-plugging it into power.

And for me at least the iPhone5 and iTunes (Win 7, version 7 latest) only recognize each other when I hit quit. Then all of a sudden they see each other, but iTunes quits anyway. Weird. iTunes is really a horribly designed and terribly slow program. I have been so disappointed with it since version 5. So much unecessary bloat. I have an Intel Core II Duo with 3 GB DDR3. Granted, not the latest and greatest, but it should be enough to play music and sync a phone or iPad.

Apple, please fix iTunes. It really is a terribly programmed piece of software.

After I installed iTunes 11, the following procedure worked:

1) Power-cycle my router and cable modem.

2) Reset the iPad network settings (General -> Reset -> Reset network settings).

3) [I suspect this is the step that really made the difference]:
a) Connect the iPad to the computer via USB.

b) Uncheck "Sync with this iPad over WiFi." Click "Apply."

c) Check "Sync with this iPad over Wifi." Click "Apply."

4) Restart Apple Mobile Service.

After I've done all of the above, iTunes is recognizing the iPad over WiFi, without any extra urging, for the first time since I've upgraded to iOS 6.0.

That didn't work for me at all. Nothing thus far has, at least not permanently. This all started since 10.7. Heck, I can revert to 10.6.x and everything works fine. This is on 6 different PCs, 2 households, 2 different routers, 3 different OSs, each with different programs, etc., so I find it hard to believe it is a problem on my end. More accurately, I refuse to believe it, considering the circumstances. Apple really needs to get their... stuff... together and correct the issues that are plaguing iTunes WiFi sync and what appears to be the mobile device service. I finally got sick of it and disabled any sort of wireless syncing capability on all my devices. Not only did I get constant disconnects and errors, but it caused iTunes 11 to crash on several occasions. After the crashes, I tried reinstalling but none of it worked for long. I'm not going to fight it anymore, nor am I going to mention these issues again. Apple support is well aware of how unhapp[y I am with this. There's simply no excuse for this anymore. I'm beginning to wonder if any developers of iTunes even care that people are having problems as long as they can shove out semi-regular, progressively fancier releases.

What I've noticed is that if I leave the iPhone or iPad unplugged from power, it would show up in iTunes more often. Once the device I want to sync appears in iTunes, I immediately plug it in to power and am able to perform the sync. For whatever reason if you start iTunes (even iTunes 11) with the device already plugged into the charger, it will not appear. In my setup at home, this situation seems pretty consistent.

My setup:

Windows 7 x64 desktop plugged in via Gigabit Ethernet

Verizon FiOS-branded Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I router

iPhone 4S with iOS 6.0.1

iPad 2 with iOS 6.0.1

Seriously people... this problem has been resolved for Mac owners since 10th Nov. Fapapa's reply worked then and continues to work now for me. I am using MacBook Pro early 2011 with the iPhone 5. Just follow instruction exactly as instructed including restarting and rechecking the 'sync phone on wi-fi' option in iTunes.

It works but then you need to just restart iTunes if ever required in the event that the iPhone/iTunes wifi connection is broken to restore it....
