wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

No, because the issue is NOT the phones, iPads, or wireless neworks. It's with a change Apple made to iTunes or more likely the bonjour service around version 10.6 or so. This is evidenced by all of the bonjour errors in your system logs. Restarting this or reconfiguring that will only work for a short period of time, but then bonjour will bite it again, and syncing will stop. There is NO fix/workaround for this, other than to downgrade to the last known working version before the change to bonjour. I can restart mmy computer and all 3 of my devices will sync. Within a few minutes my logs will fill up with bonjour errors and syncing will stop. It's that simple, and unfortunately the only fix will have to come from Apple.

After almost a week with no wifi sync issues, the problem came back, as it always seems to. After trying a few things, I tried ST67s idea of simply unplugging and replugging in the ethernet to my Mac (like turning wifi on and off if you're connected wirelessly), and that fixed the problem instantly... Even if this is a temporary fix, at least it's a quick temporary fix.

I had really thought 6.1 had helped, as my iPhone had been connecting amazingly well ever since the update. Well, until this morning. I was trying different things to get my iPhone to sync (resetting my router, rebooting my computer), and the process also made my iOS 5 iPad disappeared from the devices in iTunes.... Until disconnecting my ethernet for a few seconds, that immediatley brought both devices back to being visible in iTunes, and syncing fine.

I'm starting to see the light to KHuhn's asserstion it's an iTunes/bonjour issue, perhaps barely related to iOS 6 at all...

"Luckily if you have Mountain Lion installed on your system then Apple includes a way to easily look up all Bonjour services that are presented on the local network. One of the updated features in Mountain Lion is Apple's Wi-Fi Diagnostics utility, which in its latest version includes a Bonjour Services browser. To access this browser, open the utility from the /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder or hold the Option key before clicking the Wi-Fi menu bar icon, and you will see an option to open the Wi-Fi diagnostics. In this utility, press Command-7 or choose Bonjour Services from the View menu, and the tool will list each service that is available from computers on the local network.

Not only can you list the services in this utility, but you can also connect to them by clicking their icons, which should open the handling program for the service (such as Screen Sharing to open VNC connections) and establish the connection."

Maybe this helps. I have not researched this myself, but I saw this online. Maybe the logs can be found through this browser that is referenced above...

UPDATE: I called Apple, informed them not only of my iPhone WiFi connectivity issue, but recommended they take a look at this discussion along with many others on various websites discussing the same problem.

I explained everything in detail, informing of how I reset the Network Settings and that held only for about 20 hours, and the temporary quck fix is to toggle off /on the Wifi or Airplane mode. So Apple had me reset my iPhone 5 and set up as a new device, recommended I download the apps I need for my immediate need for Social Media Coordinator's work and test it out until this evening. If all goes well I'll restore my iPhone from a backup. If it still has the same problem, they have it noted they'll replace my iPhone 5. Of course if the problem doesn't happen and the backup causes a problem once restored, we'll probably restore again as a new iPhone, with only restoring the items I need 1 at a time with a hope to isolate the issue.

Will update later.

The problem I was having was I could see my devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, newest iPad) in iTunes but initiating a sync from either the device or iTunes would yield results of "could not find computer/device" or it would timeout with some "unknown error".

I tried many of the suggestions in this thread to no avail: set HostName, reboot the computer/iOS device/router, set HTTP proxy to Auto. I even had temporary success switching from iCloud backup to backup to iTunes but they only worked for a maximum of one sync.

I can't find the article anymore, but I remembered seeing something that said your router needs to be set to the current date/time. I dismissed it at the time because I didn't see why it would make a difference, but tried it as a last ditch effort. It seems to have worked so far, so I definitely recommend trying. It kind of makes sense though, because before when I could initiate the sync, it seemed to time out while trying to update calendars. But who knows what's actually going on.

While I hope this gives you a longterm solutions, my guess is this is one of the many suggested "fixes" that ends up being a temporary solultion at best. I just tried it (with hope), but it didn't even temporarily fix my sync issue. Please update us in a week if you find it's still working for you (most solutions I try work for 1-5 days, but then fail). I think if there really was a simple solution offered to the problem plaguing us here, we'd all be jumping on it and raving about it.

My (temporary) fix of choice remains simply disonnecting and reconnecting my computer to my network, by disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cord in my case (turning your computer's wifi off then back on again works for others).
