wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

What I did was: 1. reboot router, then when iTunes did not happen to 'see' devices after 'router reboot fix' (failed to last), I simply turned 'off' wi-fi on my Mac for 5 secs or so and then back 'on' without changing anything else. This has since fixed my issue of iTunes not 'seeing' my iOS devices. I haven't had to use this since my iOS devices were upgraded to 6.1 just a couple of days ago though.

Good luck.

Honestly, I haven't had to do anything in almost 2 weeks. Nothing at all. iPad and iPhone are syncing just fine over wi-fi. My problems ceased to exist after about the 4th incident of turning wi-fi off and then back on on my Mac. This is one of those things that I cannot explain. I didn't touch or change anything else on my Network.

Funny how we have many different solutions we are favoring... maybe we're all part of a randomnous experiment by Apple, like Skinner's superstisious pigeons. Riefa's comment is further evidence this is true!

While I've waffled back and forth (see my posts above), I've had only one failure and 8 sync successes since updating to iOS 6.1 two days ago. I know, I should wait a few more days, as my previous success story lasted even longer before failing miserably.

ST67, my iTunes mac doesn't have wifi, it's wired to my router (which I've turned on and off, and that never helped). So I can't even test your method.

I think that changing too many settings too quickly can be problematic in its own right. If you do it right, the computer and the iOS devices should really be rebooted at each and every system change that you make. Also, TIME SHOULD BE GIVEN to allow iTunes to do its thing each time you try to sync the devices. iTunes is such a large and complex program now because it handles a lot of our media these days...then there's iTunes Match and Genius that it wants to update, Home Sharing Libraries that it wants to manage and update, etc, etc every time we turn it on. I noticed that under normal conditions that it takes upwards of 3-5 minutes for iTunes to try and sync my iPhone and iPad. There is a cycle that it runs through initially that is not the actual sync cycle. When you first turn it (iTunes) on and your devices are plugged into power iTunes will look for them and they will show up in the devices section of the sidebar (if you have that view enabled) and the progress wheels next to each of the devices will spin momentarily and then the 'eject' or 'unmount' symbol will replace the 'spinning progress wheel'. When this happens, it does not mean that iTunes is done with the syncing process. (In My Experience) iTunes will actually come back to those devices and actually sync them in about 3-5 minutes AFTER THE INITIAL SEARCH AND DISCOVER phase. When this happens, the sync symbol will then be there in place of the 'unmount'/'eject' symbol next to the device seen earlier.

It's easy to hijack the process by being impatient, at least it is for me. Also, if you start changing settings willy-nilly in various places in your network or on your system, be sure to keep a detailed list so that you can find your way back. :)

Hey guys i found the solution and it is working for me, just wait atleast 5min to take effect, and also i do turn on/off the wifi in my laptop 😀 i hope this can help..

Step by step: Right click Taskbar, click Task Manager, go to Services, press A until find Apple Mobile Device, right click it and choose Restart. Now iOS device will appear in iTunes.

I should have been more accurate, I logged into the router and told it to reboot. But for now, it's all moot, as my iPhone 4S keeps syncing like a champ, better than it has in a long long time... We'll see how long it lasts...

Yeah, right after posting, I realized disconnecting the ethernet from my Mac would probably be about the same as turning off the wifi on your Mac. But again, as everything is working really smoothly now, I'm not worrying what did or didn't work for me in the past. If the wifi sync starts to fail again, I'm just going to switch back to tetherd syncs, and not spend any more time on this.

I should note that I'm 6.1 plus my iPhone's HTTP Proxy is set to "Auto" (one of the solutions offered in the thread that helped me for awhile, but then stopped -- like so many other solutions). Not sure if my results are any different than iOS 6.1 with the HTTP proxy setting being "Off" (the default setting). Or if this is just another temporary fix.

Add me to the list of frustrated users experiencing this issue. My wi-fi syncing used to work flawlessly, but has been completely erratic for several months. Because I charge my devices daily I used to know that they were always synced and backed up. Now, not so much. They can go weeks before I realize that syncing hasn't happened.

One interesting thing I noticed:

Even when iTunes and my iPhone cannot "see" one another for wi-fi sync, the Remote app on my iPhone is able to see and connect to iTunes.

System specs:

- iPhone 4S with iOS 6.0.1

- Mac Mini with OS X 10.7.5

- iTunes 11.0.1

- Airport Extreme running Airport Utility 6.1

My iPhone had not synced in 4 days.

My troubleshooting steps:

- Attempt 1: Try to trigger a manual sync via Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync

- Result: iPhone cannot find my computer

- Attempt 2: Quit iTunes on my computer and restart iTunes, then trigger a manual sync via the iPhone

- Result: iPhone cannot find my computer

- Attempt 3: Power off iPhone and power back on again, then trigger a manual sync via the iPhone

- Result: iPhone cannot find my computer

- Attempt 4: Open the Remote app on the iPhone and connect to iTunes on my computer (success), then trigger a manual sync via the iPhone

- Result: iPhone cannot find my computer

- Attempt 5: Reboot my compter, then trigger a manual sync via the iPhone

- Result: iPhone finds my computer and syncs correctly

If past experience is any indication this will work for a day or so, then stop working until I reboot again.

Hello all I was having the same issues with the Wifi-sync and the music on my iphone. I found a soultion that helped for me and it worked!

For Wifi Sync issues: It was not appearing on my phone at all, so I hooked it up to the USB cable to my phone, I clicked on my iphone tab and checked the "SYNC OVER WIFI", and Hit apply, It still did not appear on my iphone so then I clicked on the "APPS" tab and moved the apps around and clicked on APPLY, the phone did a 5 step sync and the option to sync was on my phone.

As for music, I had an issue where my music was GREYed out on my Iphone Music tab with little circles next to them, they were not on my phone!, so I deleted all music on my Iphone and made a "PLAYLIST" and added it to my Iphone tab, from there I added music to that playlist.. I wanted for it to sync in... I EJECTED the Iphone and everything was fixed!!! MUSIC issue and WIFI SYNC Issue! Hope this helps!!

I will admit that I have not read all 25 pages of replies so someone may have already posted this. I was having the same problem but in my case I knew it had nothing to do with iOS6, because I have a 1st gen iPad and thus am still running iOS5.

What worked for me was to create a new wireless network. I had to create a new network for reasons unrelated to wifi syncing of my iPad, but a happy side effect is that now my iPad shows up in iTunes and syncs flawlessly over wifi. I have since bought an iPhone 5 and that syncs perfectly too. It's been 2 weeks now without any more problems.

Hope this helps someone else.

As expected, when I woke up this morning my wi-fi sync was broken again. This time around closing and re-opening iTunes seems to be enough to get it working.

So my problem is not getting the phone to sync, it's getting it to sync reliably and automatically without needed to reboot/restart/unplug something.

For those posters who reported that they "fixed" this issue, have any of you reached this state of nirvana where wi-fi sync just works permanently and without intervention of any kind?
