wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

Would anyone experiencing this issue be so kind as to fill out Apple's feedback form?

http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

Where it says "I Have Feedback About:" select "Syncing with my iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Apple TV"

And provide a link to this forum thread in the comments box. Maybe 400+ feedback requests for the same issue will trigger somthing at Apple. I might start submitting it daily just for fun.

No, I seriously doubt that. If that were to happen, no doubt they would regret that move. As much as this IS an issue and IT WOULD BEHOVE APPLE TO FIX THIS, we all know that just a few generations ago we dedicated Apple believers and users DID NOT EVEN HAVE anything such as 'wi-fi sync' and we were all just as 'in love' with our Apple devices as ever. We seemed to get along just fine just like as we shall continue to. Come on...Really? There is such a thing as over blown and over rated. Personally, for me, there are MANY reasons why I buy Apple when it comes to consumer electronics and computers and the greatest thing....or even several of the top key points for why I do it have NOTHING to do with the 'wi-fi sync' feature. Upset enough about this feature not working smoothly right now? Go ahead and buy HTC or Motorola or Google device. I can guarantee that in a short time you'll have a list of complaints that will tower over this 'wi-fi sync' 'wrinkle'.

I have escalated this issue to the Apple Executive relations team, who in turn coordinated multiple troubleshooting sessions. There were multiple data captures and packet traces gathered. At the end I was told that I have to put things into a pure Apple environment and repeat the steps and collect capture data. I have put it into pure Apple environment and the problems were replicated. I think Apple's answer or lack thereof is abysmal. Their moto of 'IT JUST WORKS' is turning into "WE JUST DONT CARE'

I have a couple of Android tablets (cheap ones) running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and I use them at my front and rear entry doors for monitoring my home surveillance cameras. I run a single Android app that displays a matrix of the cameras and I can touch the live thumbnail of a particular camera to view it full screen. It's OK and for dedicated surveillance monitoring, it suffices, but I'm not wild about the UI and I never take them off the wall unless for maintenance.

I have 6 iOS devices (including two iPods) and I'm not giving up on them or Apple in general because of this WiFi sync glitch. I can work around it and will continue to, but Apple should determine the root cause and fix it since it appears to have been caused by some change from iOS 5 to iOS 6.

Try static IP address:

I have had problems with WiFi sync for a long time. After I reboot the devices, restart iTunes, plug the devices into USB, etc, I would get WiFi sync back for a day or so, and then it would stop working.

I found that my WiFi router would re-assign IP addresses to my iPad2 and iPhone4. So now I am changing both devices to use a static IP address. Things seem to work a little better. I will test it for a few more days and see if WiFi sync would keep working.

My computer is always on, running Indigo for home control.

I can say that my experience is pretty much identical to pagemakers4.

I smell that this problem is deeply imbedded in the iOS core code and will not be fixed until a major update (say iOS 7) is released. No one had yet documented a reliable fix or even a good work around.

The prosecution rests.

I don't really have a problem with the wifi sync not working. I have my computer that has iTunes on it hard wired to the Uverse gateway/router. But, since I bought the mophie case, I found out that can not sync through the mophie case via the new iPone 5 cable to the iTunes computer. So I either have to take the case apart to get to the new Apple cable connector or I have to wifi sync. The new mophie case has a much more tighter case and the constant removing will weaken it, so I am not wanting to take it apart, but I too can not get wifi to work at all, and the one time I did get it to work, it was very slow. I guess Mophie was not up to doing the connection as a pass through, like it had with the 4s. And I found that my iTunes computer also has to be wirelessly connected to the gateway/router for this to work which is not something I want to do for security reasons. I do not want my personal info streaming into the airwaves. If they are going to fix this then also make it such that the main computer can be hardwired.

Just want to throw this one out there:

WiFi sync is one part iOS device and one part iTunes. Around the time that iOS 6 came out, iTunes was also updated to 10.7.

I personally did not upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 for many months (but I did update iTunes). For me, the WiFi sync problems started pre-iOS 6. So I wonder if it's possible the culprit is actually iTunes.

Anyone out there using iOS 5 with syncing problems? Or using iOS 6 with a pre-10.7 version of iTunes?

rdrushton: I realize that I'm not responding to your specific case, but I've updated iTunes many times since iOS6 was released, thus I'm currently at v11.0.2. Since this problem was identified when iOS 6 was first released and since iTunes has had a number of significant releases, particularly iTunes v11 without this problem apparently either being addressed, much less corrected, I'm still of the opinion that iOS 6 is culpable. As they say on "The Mentalist" when discussing suspects for a crime, particularly a murder, the characters say "I like (iOS 6) for this."

(PS: I know that this may be lost on the non-viewers of "The Mentalist".)

Tomei Ningen: Wow! That indicates that rdrushton might be on to something, depending upon which version of iTunes you were using, however, I don't remember having the problem with my devices when they were running iOS 5. It could be that it was so much less frequent with iOS 5 (the inference I drew from your post) that I just wasn't really bothered by it.

iOS 6 is still a prime suspect and should be detained for further investigation.
