How do you delete songs in iOS 6 (finger swipe not working)

Since upgrading to iOS 6 deleting music isn't possible by swiping from left to right. How do you do this now?

I couldn't agree more that this is a massive step backwards. iTunes Match was absolutely fine as it was. That's why I paid the £22 to sign up for it. I urge all of you to report your feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I have also e-mailed Tim Cook directly. I'm not expecting a response, though I felt the need to vent my frustration. Give that this a paid service it's infuriating that functionality should be taken away and further without notification.

I will lilely ring Apple and ask for a refund on my subscription as this is unacceptable.

I just called the Apple support and asked the guy how this works right now... how can I delete music??? He told me, that I am the 10th user asking him today, and he couldn't explain why Apple decided to do it this way. He said that this wasn't the original idea behind iTunes Match.

So he told me that this will be fixed probably in one of the next versions of IOS 6.

The currently best way to use the ipod (music) in the iPhone is to sync like before we all where using iTunes Match.

I hope apple gives out a new update ASAP because this isn't a really good solution for me...

Just sent email letting Apple know this new feature will go through my data plan very quickly. Without an unlimited data plan this is a very poor idea and will cause people to stop using iTunes Match. If I'm using WiFi it's not an issue but when I don't have WiFi access and all my songs are pulled down and or streamed it will consume my 4gig data plan in a few days if not sooner. I guess I will be canceling iTunes Match if its not fixed.

So just for the good of the group Apple has released their "iPhone User Guide For iOS6" in the iBooks store. In the music chapter it specifically states that to be able to delete music you iTunes Match must not be on.

It states:

"When iTunes Match is turned on, you can't delete music. If space is needed, iTunes Match removes music for you, starting with the oldest and least played songs."

Totally agree this counter to what I believed the iTunes Match experience was supposed to be like.

I just saw this.

So : IT IS AN APPLE BIG MISTAKE ! 😠

Or (probably) they had a problem to solve it before the release date of the iPhone 5 and prefered to create the illusion that it was a new way of keeping music in a device.

It is realy a shame if the don't correct it.

ALL ITUNES MATCH USERS SHOULD MAKE A PETITION FOR THIS.

Does somebody know how make a petition online ?

Best regards to you all...

Why did Apple feel the need to ruin the functionality and degrade the look of its music application? Are they intentionally trying to lose market share? I want to be able to delete songs with a swipe of the finger and know which songs are on my phone and which are not. I also want to be able to download an individual song from the cloud when i want to and not have Apple control what is on my phone. What ever happened to common sense? And what's with the cement grey background? It's like they have someone from Samsung trying to sabotage the iPhone. That's the only explanation for voluntarily destroying the product like this. It defies logic. They pay people how much to make these moronic decisions? Sorry for the rant. This is just so frustrating. How sad.

There's more in that iOS 6 manual, p 61:

"Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.

The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

When iTunes Match is turned on, you can't delete music. If space is needed, iTunes Match removes music for you, starting with the oldest and least played songs."

So, songs can be deleted?

I understand less and less.

I read someoen say they would downgrade back to ios5 and I'm starting to think I'll do the same thing. The way Apple implemented itunes match in 6 is actually 2 steps backwards. You can't tell what's actually on your device versus what's in the cloud and to remove songs its very kludgy (turn off itunes match and then manually swipe to delete). The other features in 6 are bad as well (we tried the turn by turn directions on the map and it took us way off our path even though the overview map was correct.

Ugh. What's going on at Apple these days?? For the price we pay, we deserve better than this!

I know I'm late to the discussion, just realized today that the finger swipe delete doesn't work. I realized when tunes I was streaming started showing up after I turned off " show all music". I tried finger swiping-nothing! That is horrible, I have about 20 albums I wanted downloaded and another 10 or songs that I wanted to remove. The only way to do this is to turn off match? Doesn't that mean I have to re-download all the music I want? That is useless!

After reading all of this, I was able to use the swipe to delete songs. MOST OF THE TIME. Some just won't go away. ***? My evil twin suspects that apple has done all this to discourage people from using iTunes Match to store their entire, not bought from them, ripped music catalogs. But then, why spend the bucks on the service if I just want a jukebox?

I just found out the same today. Also Music app is slower and crashes more often. Really misses the ease and convenience with icloud icon and being able to download and delete songs/albums as I see fit in iOS5. Sent a feedback to Apple using the link provided by other users here...Please do the same if you want those features back. I'm seriously considering unsubscribing from iTunes match, which would be a shame because it worked so brilliantly in iOS 5...worked perfectly on my apple TV too.

Ugh can't believe I spent over an hour on figuring this out today...one reason I've really stuck to Apple product is because they make it so easy on the user, saving me from having to figure out stuff. Ever since iOS 6 I find it more and more inconvenient to use iphone. Darn, should never have updated to iOS 6 until all the kinks are worked out 😟
