Disappointed with maps, will google maps be available in the App Store?

I was really looking forward to the new maps but am very disappointed. Don't get me wrong the 3D maps are great, but so far in the UK I can only find London with this function.

But this isn't my gripe. It's the view in standard mode, none of the road types have different colours so navigation is much more difficult. On google maps the motorways are blue, major A roads green and so on. All the roads are the same colour on apple maps so motorways look the same as a roads etc. Is this likely to change?

If not will google maps be available in the App Store any time soon? Or is there a free/cheap map app that is as good as google maps? I can use google maps in safari but its nowhere near as intuitive :-(

I know the OS is only new, but they've been making a song and dance about this maps and I find it a big disappointing. I don't even like the colour scheme, oceans and rivers etc are shocking blue.

His letter is well meant but sadly should not have been necessary. They let politics ruin a perfectly good existing solution.

As for the letter in the sentance "In just over a week Ios users with new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations" has had the last little bit edited out. I am sure it was meant to say:

"In just over a week Ios users with new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations and sadly a quarter of a billion of them ended up in the wrong place."

However I do admit it is getting better. While my maps are still low resolution black and white and cloud covers most of the area I use, I can now search for New Zealand and not have to remember to type Neuva Zelanda.

I wish your assurance was correct. On the iOS6 upgrade...Google Maps is no longer in the Apps Store and is no longer on my iphone 4S...

It was the default maps which was connected to all applications needing a map such as contacts, yellow and white pages etc. Now it is Apple Maps without the streetview feature I loved.

If you are sure, please tell me where it can be found because I don't see it.

To be clear....

- Google Maps is NOT available currently on the App Store, nor was it ever available on the App Store. As most of you know, it was previously built into iOS, and has since been replaced with Apple's own flavor of Maps.

- The only way to currently use Google Maps on an iOS device is to visit the Google Maps website with Safari.

- You can create a shortcut to Google Maps on your homescreen that links back to the Google Maps website, which seems to be the widely-used solution for now.

- Street View is currently not supported on Google's web-based version of Maps. Therefore, there is no way to use street view directly through Google. There are several street view apps available on the App Store that may be a suitable replacement, but I personally have not tried any of them.

- Street View is rumored to currently be in development for Google's web-based version of Maps. The reports I have read said the feature should be ready in 2 weeks time.

- There is also rumors that Google is developing its own App made specifically for iOS devices. Google has said themselves that they are not working on a native App, but who really knows. If they are, I wouldn't expect to see it for some time, as Google is quite happy that Apple is selling Androids for them.

- In my opinion, the only real "solution" to use Apple Maps (while double checking with Google Maps in Safari) and waiting for Apple's flavor to slowly improve. The more people that use the Maps app, the better it will get. The few people out that that used Google Maps when it was first released will remember that it was absolutely terrible--far worse than Apple Maps is currently--but over a period of time Google was able to improve the Maps database thanks in part to the people that use it. Same deal here... more people that use it, the more data Apple will recieve. The more data Apple has, the faster they can improve the app.

... or you can just switch to Android and not have to worry about any of it. 😉

Apparently google have started giving some streetview access via their browser mobile map site: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-57526281-233/google-maps-with-street-view-o n-ios-what-it-can-and-cant-do

It's very limited in comparison to the original map app, but at least it's a step back in the right direction rather than apple's ios5 map app cul-de-sac.

Since the enforced update, I have been using the Openmaps app to get an accurate map, but I miss the high res aerial views and seamless flow in and out of streetview. It all just worked before. Now it's clunky but at least google has offered a patch for now.

Incorrect, they created their own maps because Google was being too slow at updating the maps for iOS while Android was getting all the fancy updates. Also, Apple's maps are vector maps not images. Notice the way it zooms compared to google's. Only reciently did google follow and do vector based maps.

And you felt the need to bring this up more than a year since this was post/question was already asked and answered because why????
