Any way to change iOS 6 color scheme?

Just loaded up iOS 6 and terribly dissappointed with the color scheme (not sure I've seen an android look this bad) for the messages/phone (I only wish they would have stuck with iOS 5 style buttons when using the phone).

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

The contrast problems for older eyes is the subject of many many webpages discussing design. The problem, I suspect, is that younger people without aged eyes are in charge of the design decision regarding contrast and font size and do not understand this is a problem. light blue, orange and gray font on white background is harder to read than black on white. I really really wish this was at least something the user could change but it is a design flaw from ****.

This update is horrible the colour scheme is hurting my eyes because it's way too bright. There is no variation between anything to distinguish what area is what, what about people with visual impairments... Why would they release this as it is?

I really enjoy my ipad, and since this update i really don't enjoy using it as it's now uncomfortable to use. I wish I could revert back to ios6. I will not be buying anymore apple products in the future that's for sure.

You realize this thread was started by people who hated the iOS colour scheme and wanted to switch back to iOS 5? A year from now, there will be another thread in which people are complaining that iOS 8 is hideous and they want to go back to the gorgeous colours of iOS 7.

Personally, I like iOS 7.

I'm still trying to figure out what there is to like about black text on white in most of the Apple apps "redesigns". Or grey balloons in Messages. Or baby blue text here and there. Really? This is about as flat and boring as it gets, not to mention that, after about an hours use, I'm dying to see something other than a white screen. Yikes... like we've suddenly reverted to a Palm phone circa 1998.

While the apps and functionality are much smoother overall, the color scheme etc. is atrocious. Even my teenager commented that it looked like a "Blackberry". I know what he was getting at. This new redesign is perhaps one of the most baffling things I've seen Apple do in a very long time. Will I like it eventually? The fact is, unlike a Galaxy, the user has no choice. Perhaps that is why Samsung continues to crush Apple in the sales department.

Yes, 6 was brighter than 5. It's when they screwed up the dial pad.

Now they've pretty much removed design from the interface. It's flat. It's childlike in it's colors. It looks very microsoft. The 2 and a halh D dimensional cues on the icons really did help separate things. It now looks cluttered in the same amount of space.

I will stand by my original comment. I just want a dark color scheme. I use my phone in low light a lot and all the white space is like a flashlight in my face. It's not papar. It's projected light, not reflected light (print designers feel free to look it up). I just want black backgrounds and white text. No, invert does not help, it inverts everything and all the color objects look even worse.

Overall design and usability verdict. Function: 9.5, form: 3

It works great. But a giant step backward in the way it looks.

Yes, this pretty much nails it. I turned down the brightness from where it normally is in iOS6 as now I'm pretty much looking at a white screen all the time. This new update is screaming for color and contrast. One can be simple and still aesthetic. Hard to believe that Mr. Simple Jobs himself would like what amounts to a rollback to the 1990's when phones were stuck with basic colors.

It's kind of funny in a way, though. Here, Apple goes to great lengths to update its phones and ipads with these high resolution screens... and then offers its users big white screens with flat icons and no contrast. Now, that's irony.

I'd say the door has swung wide open now for Samsung et al.

I was in on this discussion when it started out, I hated the new dial pad on iOS 6 most of all... still do. I never got used to it or never got to like it... I had trouble seeing it because of the brightness and serious lack of contrast and nothing has changed. I updated my iPad yesterday and was disappointed to see not only were there no visual improvements but they had taken it many more steps in that direction. Now almost everything is bland, flat and way too hard to see. I don't understand why I've been purchasing these devices with retina displays when all we get it white with the thinnest, lightest colored fonts possible. I was planning on getting the 5s tomorrow but now I am really debating doing so.

Yeah, it really is. This happens with every major upgrade. Some people will want to go back to a previous version that other people think was the worst thing ever. Most of us will be at least reasonably happy with the way things are.

Best of luck.
