Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

You show only 3 of the 4 listings and "conveniently" scrolled your screenshot to cut off the very first suggestion, which is clearly the correct one. It's also the only one with any user rating listed, which should have clued you which one is correct.

Give up, you're just digging yourself even deeper. The position of thread trollmeister has already been awarded.

Listen, I'm not trying to be a troll. In fact, I don't spend my life on these communities ranking up points and increasing levels (as you can see). Also, I didn't "conveniently" do anything. I was driving, asked siri a question, and that's what she gave me. I looked down, saw NASHVILLE SHORES in all caps, chose it, and it lead me to the woods. There wasn't even a mail box where it said for me to turn. So, that alone is a mistake. However, if you think I'm cutting off the fourth result, I had no intention on doing that, I just quickly recreated my situation. As far as my rant, I was mad and wanted to contact anyone or anything resembling something apple might actually view on this subject. Call me thread meister-troll, or even better, KING THREAD MEISTER-TROLL III. The bottom line is that I learned my lesson. Instead of using SIRI, next time I will, pull over, open google maps, type in the name of my destination and make sure that there is a user review, consult my atlas to make sure the rout is correct, ask St. Christopher to protect me in journey, carefully pull back onto the highway, and never again consult the apple support communities in an emotional state. And, your right, the map app is super swell, and siri works like a dream.

This is what the actual screenshot shows - 4 suggestions as you admitted. YOU HAD TO ALTER THE IMAGE TO CUT OFF the first suggestions - Siri screens don't scroll.

The fact is you're trolling here, deliberately presenting misleading information to suit your agenda. You are clearly dishonest, and at this point there is no reason to believe that the missed event saga is even true.

Feb 16, 2013 4:25 PM in response to modular747

I DID NOT alter the screen shot. The Nashville shores with the reviews (the correct one) shows up as the forth option on my phone. I have no reason to alter since I have no agenda other than finding my way. However, this does make a good point. Why does Siri show the results in what seems to be reverse order on mine. Is this a pref? While driving at 80mph, I went with the first result that said bell road. Since the best result on my iphone was at the bottom (you can see I'm not lying since the yelp logo is not visible), I obviously chose the wrong one. If this is a pref, I would like some actual help in how to sort my results in a better fashion. If not, then why has it given us the same results but in a different order. Please, from now on, just tech support, not name calling, accusations, or anything other than help.

If that were true, it would appear as the 4th option at the bottom of the screen!

No matter how many times I try, using my iP5 or my wife's iP4S, Siri always puts it first. (There is no pref setting for this)

That's a laugh, you calling for "just tech support"!! Your first post neither sought or provided tech support, only to rant how Apple done you wrong! From then on, just one obfuscation on another.

This will be my last post on the subject. Thanks to all who've helped. Chris, I do apologize for name calling, but taking unsolicited criticism on my busy schedule after a blowout with my wife hits the wrong way. I'm sure you can understand. And, we've deduced that it wasn't actually a maps issue, however, it was a siri issue. Not really an issue, per se, but an organizational conflict. However, it is interesting to see where it gets its information.

Modular, I honestly don't know any sane person who would spend the time to alter a screenshot to prove a point. I don't have photoshop, I don't know it, I'm in audio. Here's another shot to prove that I'm not a liar, though. As I said before, and as seen on my earlier screenshots, the correct address was placed at the bottom, and I would have had to scroll down while driving to see the fourth address. However, seeing NASHVILLE SHORES and a Bell Road address on the second item, I naturally felt as though that was the correct one. If you don't believe this one, then I just don't really care. I've wasted entirely too much time already on this.

Then how do you explain why the first screeshot you posted only showed 3 of the 4 options, oddly omitting the correct choice???? Regardless of the order, all off them are listed - you chose what you wanted to post here....

One thing, I do see a reason why your order is different from mine. Yours is listed in order of distance from your current location, with the 4001 Bell Rd address being the furthest. My list didn't have the distances, probably because I'm much further away.

The bottom line is that you ended up in the wrong location only because you picked the wrong option. There's absolutely no way you can blame your mistake on Maps or Siri.

Feb 17, 2013 9:56 AM in response to modular747

I didn't feel I needed to since I saw NASHVILLE SHORES in all caps as the second option, so why go any further and risk an accident? I didn't have a passanger to help me, and since I was driving I didn't want to take my eyes off of the road for too long. Modular, the world is not bianary; there are many different variables that go into day to day events. I confess, I chose the wrong one. I admit that.

There is a difference here, though, between the way yelp sorts its results and the way google maps does. When I searched in google (I had to navigate through the ios home screen, as well as the app itself, so this was not an option as I was driving), the correct address showed up first. With yelp, it listed every address with "Nashville Shores" in its title and sorted by distance. For a better user experience (and this is not justifying my actions), from an ergonomic and ease of use standpoint, it would be more effective to sort by relevance instead of distance...or at least to have a pref for that. This isn't me totally blaming my mistake on siri, but its obvious that with the results they way they showed up and the fact that there were two non-existant address in the results (the 3979 address does not exist...at least where maps says it does), it created confusion for the user. SIRI is meant to be a hands off, easy to use tool. Its early on in its development, and I'm sure its going to be great...its already great. So, as a business owner myself, I would look at this and say, "this even caused confusion for the user. How can I make this process more streamlined?"

Once again, I admit I made a mistake. However, given the circumstances, it was an easy one to make. Even though there was a lot of name calling and childish banter, I feel like we've located the source of the problem, and i appreciate the help.

As does every navigation software (including dedicated nav devices such as Garmin).

Well, just how would the software determine "relevance" based only on a location name?? Cybernetic telepathy is a few years away, don't ya think?

I didn't feel I needed to since I saw NASHVILLE SHORES in all caps as the second option,

Huh? What's capitalization (done by whoever created the business name, not Siri), got to do with it?

so why go any further and risk an accident?

Now you're at the crux of it! You shouldn't have been looking up anything while driving. For this potentially relationship altering event, why didn't you make the time and effort to search this BEFORE you left?

there was a lot of name calling and childish banter,

There was no "name calling? whatsoever. The only "childish banter" was in your first post where you tried to blame Apple for what was actually your carelessness.

Feb 17, 2013 11:20 AM in response to modular747

You just will not relent. I'll start by saying, again, I'm wrong. Does this make it better...you're right. I can't believe I went with the first Nashville Shores that had a bell road exit. What was I thinking?

What I was saying about relevence is that when you do a google search for nashville shores, the park is what shows up. There is no mention of any other place. When do you a search on maps.google.com for "Nashville Shores" the only thing that comes up is the correct address as seen by this screenshot.

User uploaded file

When you do a search on the google maps app, this is the ONLY thing that shows up.

User uploaded file

It doesn't show it, but that is the correct address, and exactly where I needed to go.

When you ask siri, you get four choices, and I chose the wrong one. I honestly cannot believe that this "discussion" has seriously gone on this long.

As for the childish banter, I have already appologized for my "rant." I have appologized to every mistake taht I have made. However, you have not appologized for calling me a liar or "troll." You acutally accused me of photoshopping the order of the results, and intentionally leaving off the last result. As I said before, when I posted that picture, I was showing exactly what I saw while I was driving. You really see nothing wrong in grilling me after I have said several times that I chose the wrong destination? Anyway, I am bowing out of this discussion. Have a nice weekend.

How can you say Google is listing by order of relevance, when it lists only one item? What would happen if you actually wanted Nashville Shores Marina (and didn't know the exact name)?

Google search pages list by "relevance" based on the wording of the inquiry, advertising, and the number of hits on the listed links, which they can easily track. If your phone fed back your option choice to an Apple database, there would be a gross invasion of privacy, with no end to the ranting on this forum...
