VirtualBox stopped working with the update to 10.8.2

I am encountering the same issue after installing EFI update in conjunction with the 10.8.2 update. I'm using VirtualBox 4.2 on a MBP Retina 15" 2.3GHz Core i7.

What can we do?

I can confirm I also have this issue. However, it probably was the firmware update rather than the 10.8.2 update. VirtualBox doesn't load the VM because VT-x on the CPU is locked.

I have a mid-2012 15" Macbook Pro, 2.6 GHz i7.

I agree that the firmware update caused the issue. I was fine immediately before the update and received the error immediately after.

It was metioned previously in this forum and on other forums that you can import Virtualbox VMs in Parallels as a workaround. I am going to give it a try.

Hi, I can confirm mid-2012 11" MBA with the 10.8.2 update, also having this problem after the update. I've read somewhere that Parallels is working, so I might give that a try to keep working until there's a resolution to this problem.

This is a know bug. The Virtualbox community reported it when the update was in the beta channel.

I've been running 4.1.22 just fine on 10.8.2

Did you install the EFI Firmware update?

I also have the same problem. It seems only those new 2012 version macbooks faces such problems. I need to use my virtual box urgently!!! My project is all in my guest linux system. Please help!!!!

Until we have the real solution, you can download the parallels trial. It works like a charm. Before you can use your VM, the import wizard will ask you to convert the image to something compatible with parallels.

This is not the real solution, per example, a Vagrant configuration cannot be used with Parallels.

I think this is a embarassing bug, because the open source community noticed it before this update was shipped.

I have the same problem too, and the original Virtualbox vm file: .vdi has cracked, and cannot work with other Virtualbox on PC

Retina MacBookPro with 10.8.2 and Firmware update.

Would appreciate another workaround than downloading Parralells becaus with my Internet in Saudi it would take me a week to Download.

The problem was first discovered during the third beta of 10.8.2, it is not the EFI firmware update that has caused the problem.

The problem is only effecting IVY Bridge CPU's and not older CPUS
