iOS 6 Music Not Really There

I have updated successfully to iOS 6 on an iPhone 4.

After restoring the backed up iPhone I happily found my music now on the phone. However, not all the music is actually on the phone. It skips between songs that it cannot find.

I am a member of iTunes match but the ability to download the 'missing' music is not present on any of the skipped tracks.

This is incredibly annoying. Has anybody else experienced the same and if so, have you found a solution?

I just noticed this...even after a full restore of the iPhone. I have 2 devices (ipad 3, iPhone 4) both sync to the same laptop and itunes library, both have iTunes Match enabled.

When the ipad is syncing in iTunes with the iPad selected, under the Music heading it says "iTunes Match enabled". When my iPhone 4 is syncing in iTunes with the iPhone selected, under music it has the old "Sync music..." options.

It's like iTunes does not recognize that I have iTunes match enabled on the iphone after the iOS 6 update.

had provblem with ipad 2 and music and videos that i. Neither cloud based music showed up nor did the videos though they still occupied memory.

i did a restore and the video s are now showing but music not.

strangly on my iphone 4 the music and videos work.

but

on an updated macbook pro no music shows up as available on icloud match... though a list of the tracks does.

i think some of this is the cloud not working

Add me to the list of similar problems. I fiddled with the Match buttons and options in Itunes and on my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2. On my iPad 2 I can at least get artist information and album covers, but no songs show up. On my iPhone I can't get past the Cloud icon with the progress bar that never moves. I can't click on any of the buttons on the music screen.

It may simply be an issue with the service being behind right now, but what I can't figure out is why the upgrade deleted all the songs I had locally on my iPhone. I tried restoring from a backup, and it didn't fix.

Very strange.

Update:

I've spent a number of hours trying to fix my device.

Whilst not having exactly the same problems as most, I think the following might work for those using Match.

  • If you have your music loaded onto the device and it isn't playing (for whatever reason) Use the restore function within iTunes. (Make sure you have a suitable backup! Don't hold me to account should things go awry)
  • When the restore is complete go into the Settings > Music > Match - Switch OFF Match BEFORE opening the Music application
  • Now open the Music app and no music should be available
  • Re-open Settings > Music > Match and switch it to ON
  • Re-open the Music app and it should ask for your iTunes password
  • The iCloud icon should appear with a progress bar and should complete quite quickly
  • Now open a playlist or track and check that the music is playing correctly
  • If not - get even angrier at Apple's lack of clarity over how iOS 6 could play havoc with Match!

If any Tech blog is reading this thread please bring it to Apple's attention about how painful this process has been. Collectively many hours have been wasted over this issue.

Remember Apple we pay for this 'tool' as a subscription and it would have been much easier to just dump all my music on and off the device than use Match.

Having similar problems.. it's very frustrating not to have access to my music. After updating to iOS6, I only see a picture of a cloud when opening the Music app. If I switch off iTunes Match, it says "no music on device" even if I go to the store and redownload an old purchase. Also the music still seems to be taking up gigs of space even though I don't see it under General > Usage. 😠
