iOS 6 - Maps No Sound

Just installed iOS6 on my iPhone 4S and thought I'd test the Maps app. I put in my directions and pressed the start button but thoughout my 2km Drive I got no sound instruction. I checked the Maps settings and the volume was up Loud. I also did a hard reset and still no sound. My model phone is MD241X/A.

any ideas ?

I'm in Michigan.

It is Jan. 2013 by now.

The turn-by-turn voice instructions DOES NOT work, for both Apple Maps or Google Maps for IOS6.

They both start with the voice instruction (how to get out of my driveway :-), but after that...silence and missing turns.

The same happens when I ask Siri to take me somewhere. It starts out OK, but it dies as soon as I am out of my driveway. Very frustrationg and it really becomes a USELESS app.

I hope they'll fix it soon.

This URL takes to a site that tells me how to download Google Maps!

MY question was/is: I have BOTH Apple and Google Maps on my 4S/iOS 6 iPhone.

NEITHER gives me the voice turn-by-turn instruction that we all got used to!

That IS a big problem - waiting for the Apple geniuses to solve it!

BTW, on my Galaxy tablet: the voice turn-by-turn instruction on Google Navigation works GREAT!

So that tells me it is an Apple software problem!

I think I have ANOTHER answer to the same question:
Last week I was in Florida, vacationing with a rental car...NO PROBLEM with the sound.

Then I came back here and rode in my car: a 2012 Ford Edge, with SYNC on it. Guess what?

NO SOUND. I think it might be something to do with the SYNC system? (I had some other few problems with the 2012 version). I had 2008 and 2010 SYNC with no problem but it looks like some genius wanted to improve things.

If you have problems with the voice with Google Maps and/or Apple Maps, tell us if you have a Ford car with SYNC on it...it might lead somewhere!

Thank you!!

I've known for a while my iPad Maps voice features were deactivated (or removed) because it doesn't have cellular network capabilities. What Apple didn't count on is that I have a Verizon Jetpack Hotspot device. I basically have the Internet everywhere and I don't see why I have to pay at least 200 dollars more to get a feature that is so easily available through competitors.

Thank you Edgarin108!

I did the same test with the Apple Maps last night. It worked great without the Bluetooth connected.

But, once I turned on the Bluetooth feature (i.e. connected the iPhone to the SYNC system)...no voice instructions!

So, I'm convinced that it is something to do with the combo of iPhone and Ford SYNC :-(
At least I know how to temporarily resolve it!

Does Apple people read these postings...like to get ideas on how to improve their system? I hope they issue the 1.6.2 SOON with this issue corrected!

If we are still talking about iPhone and Ford Sync:

It is the same problem with Apple AND Google Maps: No sound...if you do not do two things:

One is to turn OFF your iPhone's Blue Tooth option. You can get the sound thru your iPhone (not thru your cars radio) and all works well...but then you cannot use your "hands free" option that you love about your Ford Sync.

So here is the OTHER option: Set your type of source in your car/sync system.

Hit Aux, then Menu, then Sync-Media, hit OK

Now scroll down until you see "Select Source", hit OK

Now scroll down to "Bluetooth Audio" Hit OK

You are ready to roll, with the sound of your Map programs coming thru your car stereo! The same goes for your Pandora app...nice music thru your Ford Sync/car stereo! AND your 'hands-free' options works great!!

Problem: Once you turn your car OFF, the whole arrangement goes out and it reverts back to the default: "LINE IN". The geniuses at Sync told me that they are aware of the 'problem' but they do not plan to have an option like make this MY DEFAULT! Not anytime soon they told me!! Who's paying those morons...us, the paying customers!

I found one way to get around this: Just before you are ready to turn your motor off, SHUT OFF your radio. Most of the time it remembers the last setup you had your SYNC on...but sometimes it does not remember it!

So here we have two giants like Apple and Ford Motor/Sync and they expect (?) guys like us to resolve their problems! Is that great or what?

Anyway, if you guys out there test it and it works for you, please let me know. I'm redy to pick up my new Ford Edge!!!
