iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Hi,

Can anyone get any news about the last status covering ios 6.0.1 version upgrading?
What can iPhone 4S owners do next to solve theri WiFi problems?

I do not know the way about how to make this message reached to Apple. I fell I am alone with this problem. My iPhone 4S's WiFi option is always greyed out for 2 months and since I have upgraded the previous version to ios 6.0.

Hey iPhone 4S users, please do not neglect to write your complains to this forum!!!

I have the same problem, my iPhone 4S it's useless without my wifi, I've tried all of the tricks that you can think of, but nothing worked, I have a developer account and I have bad news, the iOS 6.1 beta was release yesterday and doesn't fix anything!! I really don't know what's apple doing to fix this or if it's doing anything any all but the first beta it's pointless for us... Again.

My own progress report:

This only cropped up for me 2 days ago. The switch was visible but greyed out and unselectable.

I went through all the recommended steps:

  • reset network settings
  • reset all settings
  • restored iphone to factory settings
  • restored iphone to factory settings and restored from backup
  • tried http proxy change
  • cleared safari cache, history, cookies
  • turned cellular off and turned back on
  • sat on phone with apple support for a while we went through a checklist that included much of the above
  • TOOK IPHONE 4S TO APPLE STORE AND GOT A REPLACEMENT PIECE OF HARDWARE

I thought the last step fixed things, and it worked, for 24 hours.

Then tonight, i went to plug in the phone for the night noticed the greyed out WIFI button was back.

So, I checked my Airport Express settings. Everything was up to date, and as close to factory defaults as they come. I switched the channel from Auto to, in my case, 3.

WIFI immediately showed up on the iPhone.

A possible artifact of N channel congestion and not smart AP channel management...?

I dunno. But we'll see how long this lasts.

[I can't believe Apple stores are just replacing phones in these cases and that a patch for this problem, which as been existant since at least September, is neither imminent nor informing AppleCare support practices. Pretty disappointed in Apple right now.]

When I take my iPhone home the wifi works but then gradually dies. Turn the phone off and on and the wifi is greyed out. No matter what I do it wont come back.

If I power off the iPhone and power it on at work I have wifi all day long.

Wifi at home work perfect for the wifes iPhone4, my iPad(2) and the PC

This only started to happen after getting back from holiday and having turned on/off the Airplane Mode setting.

Spoke to O2 and they said they will reset my MAC - will wait and see if that cures it.
