I discovered that my iPad is charging off of the USB in spite of the fact that the display says it is not charging. This is also happening with the car charger and my iPhone. This is not an enhancement. Now I have to guess if my device is charging (even if it is slowly) or not charging. So if I guess wrong I might not have a charge in the morning if I leave it connected to the PC overnight. This is not good. Either the device is charging or it is not charging.

I have ipad 2, 32gb vanila. updated to os 6 on 28th . Im and american living in Germany who purchased an American Ipad off a US military Exchange (AAFES) store. I use local Wifi in my home which is on the T-Com network (local German) as i live off post. I updated via Wifi and all seemd well at first. directly after update to OS 6 My Ipad will no longer charge on my Logitech speaker stand. However i realised this befor all power was lost and was able to get it to charge using a third party ipad USB cable- to standar Cube Apple wall adapater- a grounded standard 110-220v wall adapter - 220v standard house power outlet.

When placed in the logitech dock it no longers playes the ''tingel'' sound sinaling charging any more- nor is the batery icon showing ''charging'' or '' not charging'' just a batery %full icon.

If placed on the dock the Ipad plays music from what ever album i last played music. This is not the asigned behavior for this even it should play a random song from the albums list. It should also play at the asigned volume witch is very low for nice listening at my bedstand as my ipad for over a year has replaces my bedside clock radio. however it plays music as loud as i set the alarm in the Alarm Clock APP. (why is this app getting priority over itunes when using itunes) I can reset the volume to what i want--- but then my Alarm off the alarm clock app will not be loud enough all, these various apps used to keep their own volume setting insted of reverting what ever volume setting is made when on the dock.

whether the dock is turned on or not. if the ipad is placed on the dock it burns power quick..

If i place the ipad on the dock with 95% at 0130.. when i wake up at at 0530 the ipad will have between 35-10% power.. if i leave the ipad on my bedside with the magnet cover on and all networks off ill only be down to 88-80%

I finde it a bit of a strech that on the evening that im home sick and update to os 6.. that my logitech stand choses to belly up.. all thes problems showed up with OS 6.. along with the additinal problem of having the wrong apps store, Itunes, home pass, and Safari, deliverd to my Ipad in the update-(all were German) It did resolve itself just now as i have the ipad on a usb to the home Itunes PC- and did a hard sync.

Appel i need to be able to put my ipad back on its stand with the confidence that it will wake me for work and be just as ready to work as I am

mostly because of the incompatability- pepritory arcitecture of the Iphone 5 power/sync conector I will not be upgrading to this( they say they will have adaptors, I fail to see how that will work on my docks swing and swivel stand and not destroy its safty or elegance. Im likewise afraid that things like I-dock, I-love, Logitech Speaker stand will be changed over to the new conector infrastructure making my older ipad and such obsoleat and irelevant.

Presently it tastes not like a Failed OS update but like very intrusive wallet opener. A self fulfing rhetorick in why you should migrate to the newest Apple thing whether or not the present one works well enough for you- I resented and resited apple for Years befor I-pad 2 ,, got an ipad2 and loved it-- if this is the case --- I can go back to hating apple for years and years.

I think this is, as suggested, an effort to try to get people to use only genuine Apple chargers. This is presumably being done for two reasons: (1) Apple chargers are indeed higher quality (teardowns of Apple iPhone chargers online have strongly confirmed this), which may in rare but real cases prevent damage to the device, and of course (2) they want to sell their own chargers so that they can make tons of money on them instead of losing a billion in sales each year to generic chargers--and finally, starting with the sad owners of the nice iPhone 5, cables.

In each case there is circuitry inside the device that tries to identify itself as Apple, and it looks like Apple is making greater use of that circuitry now.

Others will clone this stuff, presumably, unless it's patented, but it will take time.

Like everyone else here, I hope Apple realizes this is causing a lot of problems for their customers, especially since many of their customers kind of broke the bank to get the device in the first place. Let's hope iOS 6.01 fixes this, from a customer point of view.

P. S. I still don't understand why they didn't go with a surface magnetic attachment for the iPhone 5 Lightning cable. If one is starting over, why not make it a great improvement instead of a modest improvement? Sigh.

I had a pathetic battery performance after I updated my iPad 3 to iOS 6 a month back...last week updated 6.0.1 and my ipad stopped charging. Tried different wall sockets.. Browsed the Internet and found many similar threads, synched with iTunes on my laptop...nothing worked. When connected to laptop, got a message 'Not Charging'.

Finally took it to the service centre in Chennai (India). After a few mins the engineer came and said its a problem charger and said can replace it under warranty ( mine is just 3 months old). After that its charging now...almost 50% charged now...hope things go fine. Not sure what iOS 6.0.1 has to do with charging. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Labrintho,

Your explanation of what's happening applies to my "fix". After always charging my wife's iPad 2 from a Unitek USB hub, I assumed that upgrading to IOS 6 would not change this. Wrong! The iPad showed "Not charging', but, as you say, it did appear to be charging at some miniscule rate as the iPad was not going flat. I simply charged the iPad directly from my iMac, and the the "Not charging" message disappeared and the % charged climbed!

So, I'll just have to use other things on my hub.

More updates...

After getting the charger replaced, my iPad charged fully and after a week when I tried to charge the second time, faced the same issue of not charging. This time I connected my iPad to iTunes, tried a full restore, spent a couple of hours on it and still faced the same issue. So another trip to the service centre and this time they said they will test it out and let me know the next day. Next day I got a call and was told that the iPad has some issue and they will replace it under warranty. So after a few days wait, got a replacement -a brand new iPad 3. I am planning to upgrade to ios 6.0.1 immediately. Will wait and watch.

Few things which frustrates me...

- Apple has launched iPad 4 within 8 months of iPad 3...never they have released a new version in less than a year.

- logical sequence would be to retire iPad 2 and have iPad 3 at reduced price. But iPad 2 is still on the shelf and iPad 3 has been removed.

This leads me to conclude that there is some serious problem with iPad 3 and apple is hiding something. I will neve buy an apple product again, because this is my third apple product and I had problem with all three. For the exorbitant price I pay, I expect something better and not every product to brick.

I just upgraded my iPad to 5.1 and it will no longer take a charge. Tried with home charger, car charger and into laptop, nothing worked fine befor upgrade and my charger charges does charge my iPod just fine. Tried rebooting several times, nothing. I feel like I'm being forced to buy a new one when mine worked just fine. I hope I can find a fix, only 7% charge left.

🙂 I hit the same problem - upgrade to OS 5x said the charger was not compatible. From all the comments I figured if Apple's software was stupid - I was a little more stupid - it may just about work. yeah... it did.

I connected the ipad after several messages to a new ACER machine for under a minute. The first message said that Ipad was not charging. I disconnected from the laptop and connected again to my charger.. and believe me my old charger started charging my IPAD with the 5x OS. Some nasty Apple trick i guess.
