iPhone/iOS 6 and a car stereo

I have a JVC aftermarket stereo in my car that is designed to work with iPods and iPhones. I've used my 3GS and 4S on it without any trouble until today when I upgraded to iOS 6. When I plug my phone in via the the 30 pin dock connector the screen reads "READING." Nothing happens and sound still plays through the phone. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks so much in advance for your help.

I am having this problem as well. I have a 2011 Accord and the factory USB now reads 'not supported' when I try to listen to a podcast. If I plug in while having just listened to a 'cast, I am good for about 5 minutes, but I cannot access any menus. In iOS5, when Apple introduced the Podcast app, if I was using it to listen to a 'cast and then plugged into the car, it would also go haywire and say 'not supported.' With iOS6, ALL podcasts are accessed through this app which simply does not want to talk to my car.

I wish this would help me too. But it doesn`t :-(

I tried out everything ...

1. Let my devices forget themself. Doesn`t work.

2. Use different players. Doesn`t work.

3. Delete all my musik. Doesn`t work.

4. Restore my iphone 4s without backup. Doesn`t work

Now I don`t know that to do anymore :-(

Maybe Alpine release a bluetooth update for my radio. **** happens.

I think I just figured it out.

You have to have some songs loaded onto your iPhone into the "music" app for the stereo to work. I didn't have any songs on my phone, because I usually use pandora/spotify... and none of the audio worked (which I assume is a stupid bug courtesy some dumb Apple engineer who didn't test for the edge case).

I loaded a couple of songs onto my phone, and voila, suddenly everything works. Though the car controls annoyingly only work on the "music" app - so if you have spotify/pandora playing and click skip forward on the car, it will revert to the music app. But, at least my navigation works now and stuff.

I am able to use my iPhone 4 with iOS 6 in my car. I have a 2011 Honda Accord EX-L sedan with the navigation package and connect via a USB port. I use Bluetooth only for the telephone function. Here is what how I use the device in the car and what I have learned:

I use my iPhone to listen to podcasts and audiobooks more than music. Often, I listen while at work and go directly into my car, plug in the phone, press the AUX button and continue the podcast I had been listening to through headphones. Prior to the addtion of the Podcasts app, this worked flawlessly. Now recall that iOS 5.1.1 had the Podcast app and still allowed podcasts in the Music app. While still in 5.1.1, if I was listening to a podcast through the Music app, it worked perfectly when I plugged into the car. If the 'cast was through the Podcast app and I plugged in, I would get a few seconds of the 'cast and it would cut off and the NAVI screen would read "Not Supported."

Now, with iOS 6, podcasts are restricted to the separate app. No more in the Music app. Anytime I plug into the car when the last action I did was listen to a podcast, I get "Not supported." The Podcast app cannot communicate with my Honda. So, my workaround is this: Before plugging into the car, I make certain the last thing I listen to is something from the Music app. Once plugged in, I press AUX. The music starts, I bring up my iPod menu, select Artists, and find the podcast on the Artists list and select it. It works everytime. Not ideal, but no need to perform System Restore or reload my music. I believe there is an issue with the Podcast app, at least with Honda.
