iPhone/iOS 6 and a car stereo

I have a JVC aftermarket stereo in my car that is designed to work with iPods and iPhones. I've used my 3GS and 4S on it without any trouble until today when I upgraded to iOS 6. When I plug my phone in via the the 30 pin dock connector the screen reads "READING." Nothing happens and sound still plays through the phone. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Found another problem, when I finally do get to listen to a pod cat, when a phone call comes in the phone switches to answer mode all good, but when the call finishes and the podcast restarts, the car audio crashes again saying unsupported.

The podcast app is not supported by the Honda Audio System at all, dropping podcasts from he iTunes app is a bad move.

At the lease there should be options to use both.

iOS 6 Working again in my 2010 GMC Terrain with cable dock with iPhone 4s. I too upgraded to iOS 6 and found that I could no longer use my iPhone with the cable dock to play iTunes/Pandora. Very bummed. My solution was to use the head phone jack. That worked but not with the car buttons. I had to control everything through the iPhone 4s. ***Fast forward to today, I tried it the old cable way and it worked perfect through the cable dock. I can control through the car again! FYI people***

GUARANTEED SOLUTION READ!!!!

Okay so I had the same exact issue on my 2012 Honda Accord. I took my car to the dealer and some iPhones worked while others didnt so they said they can't do anything. I thought the stereo system may have needed a firmware update to be compatible with my new ios but it was not even related to that. My front door neighbor has the same exact vehicle. I just spoke to him and he advised me that to fix the issue all I had to do was SIMPLY PURCHASE A SONG ON iTunes....YEA LIKE THAT WILL WORK? Well thats what I said, but that $1.29 song I bought MADE IT WORK! I was surprised as **** to find out that would solve the problem.

Solution Summary:

Purchase a song on your iTunes. If you had done so in the prior ios DO IT AGAIN! I had never bought anything on iTunes and this was my first purchase. I GUARANTEE YOU it'll work....well at least in the Honda Accord it does. I had to call my Honda service rep and let him know so in the future if someone brings their car in for same problem they know how to advise them.

HOPE THIS HELPED A LOT OF YOU FROM A LOT OF FRUSTRATION 🙂

EugeneA's answer works! Way to go Apple...seems like a simple fix you guys might want to look into with the next patch.

Anyway, I just added a couple songs to my iPhone 4 Music library and magically my aftermarket radio's controls work again and Spotify can be accessed through the truck radio when I connect through the radio's dock cable. Wahoo! See ya later public radio. 🙂

I have a similar issue. I have an iPhone 4S running IOS 6.0.1 and I use it to listen to podcasts during my commute in a 2010 Honda CRV.

When I play my podcasts, whether in the iPhone Podcast App or in Downcast, it works okay until the end of the given podcast.

In the previous IOS at the end of the podcast the stereo would automatically move to the next podcast in the same subscription (i.e., I just finished one episode of Fresh Air and it would automatically start the next episode).

Now in IOS 6 at the end of the podcast it goes randomly to some of my music in iTunes.

If I use the stereo controls to advance to the next track (podcast episode), it also shifts to the music.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
