bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

I have had the same problem with the iPhone 5 only. All other devices with IOS6 work, it is because of the BT 4.0 introduction.

I contacted Ford Sync and are aware of the issue, but its not on their end, especially since all other devices works. I can take calls through the system but BlueTooth Audio with iPhone5 does not work.

First, Bluetooth 4.0 and, for that matter, AVRCP 1.4, were introduced in iOS 5 (October 12, 2011.)

Second, did Ford actually tell you it's not their issue, or are you just drawing that conclusion?

Seriously, it should take about ten minutes with a protocol analyzer for a vendor to know exactly what's happening here and who's at fault, and the fact that none of the affected manufacturers are yet officially pointing fingers at Apple almost a week after iOS 6 was released is, IMHO, telling.

(For that matter, so is the fact that, iOS 6 development seeds have been available to manufacturers for in-house testing for several months.)

William, where were you able to see what versions of the Bluetooth protocols were released with which versions of iOS? I did a bit of searching but had no luck...

so frustrating... I'm one of those addicted to audiobook while commuting and my Alpine CDE-133BT is a key component in my daily life... I may have to roll back to iOS 5

Jonah, What Pioneer Head Unit do you have? I just wanted to make sure my head unit is up to date. I have a AVH-P4400BH and I do not see any firmware updates on pioneer's support page.

It's not really in a database anywhere, but searching various news articles and discussion threads that go back to the iOS 5 release have provided that data.

Specifically, there was a thread that mentioned that some VW head ends that broke in this same way when iOS 5 was released and the issue was root caused to the fact those head ends could support up to BT 1.3 but not 1.4 due to an error on VW's part:

Honestly, it doesn't matter to me.

I'm still using blue tooth devices that are five years old. Instead of past or current production models making sure they meet criteria for future releases, the supplier of the phone should insure that is backwards compatible with existing devices.

All other phone manufacturing companies somehow make their phones backwards compatible. Why doesn't apple?

Sorry, but I won't give in, if this isn't fixed by the 29th day of my iphone 5 ownership, I will simply return it and I'll go get an android. Something I've held out from doing since my original iphone.

I feel your pain. I have an hour commute each direction and I bought a car setup that would integrate my iphone well (Pioneer). iOS 6 breaks it. I think if Apple acknowledged that there was a bug and we knew that a fix was on the way, that we would be satisfied with that. This is a pretty big bug if it isn't the case that the car audio manufacuters aren't following the standard correctly. Here's hoping for a 6.0.1 soon.

Because Apple may not have done anything wrong.

The entire phone industry is driven by new features and the latest protocols, not backwards compatibility.

Backwards compatibility is guaranteed in the protocols; Apple's not responsible if the device implementors got it wrong.

That's the way protocols work; the parties on both sides have to properly implement their side of a protocol for things to work.

As I've said previously, this isn't a hard issue for those with the equipment to diagnose, and the fact that none of the companies with devices having this issue have yet to definitively stated it's Apple's bug seems to indicate it may not be.

Any enthusiast site with a BT-compliant app or device and a BT protocol analyzer could look at the data stream and know within minutes if Apple was sending properly compliant metadata or not (and many of them are not exactly fond of Apple and would delight in such), and we haven't seen any of those sites post about it (yet) either.

However, for me, I frankly don't care about the who's at fault. I know that my iphone 4, and my iphone 4s on iOS5 worked flawlessly with all of my devices.

Now my 4, 4s, and my 5 simply do not work

So the ball is in apple's court. If they release a hotfix, they continue to get my business. If they don't, my phone is going back.

Even if this isn't apple's fault (which is clearly appears to be) I do not want to repurchase $4500 worth of product to continue to use apple's products.

The weird thing is that my iPhone 5 now seems to work fine everytime. For the 2 days I tried it on my 4, it didn't work. And the first day and a half with the 5, I never got it to work either. But now, all of the sudden, it seems to work fine, as far as AVRCP goes. Now, the only issue I'm experiencing is the Bluetooth audio skips that people in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4318307?answerId=19749118022#19749118022&ac_cid=tw123456#19749118 are complaining about.

Obviously, iOS 6 is extremely buggy when it comes to Bluetooth. The backwards compatibility built into the Bluetooth protocol makes it pretty obvious this is an Apple issue.

Oh, and Go Packers. They got ****** by the NFL like we got ****** by Apple.

@deepcover haha, I had to do it. I'm still a little upset about last night, being a Packers fan and all.

Ok so after a little digging it would appear that apple use or used to use the Bluetooth protocol stack BlueMagic. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_stack#section_2 is this the case in ios6?

I guess if so many people are passing the buck on who's fault it is that apple has changed their iOS and now stuff doesn't work. I guess if I get my ford truck reprogrammed by ford and it doesn't want to start, I guess that I COULD blame Goodyear for it!!!!!?
