bluetooth music issues after iOS6 update

We at Kenwood have had a chance to test the new Apple iOS6 software that is available as an update for the iPhone 4/4S. With this update Apple made some changes that can affect Bluetooth streaming audio connectivity on some Kenwood receivers. We’ve found no issues with Hands Free calling.
The Bluetooth Streaming audio issues are:
• Intermittent auto connect, and disconnections
• Loss of streaming audio connections on some models
• Loss of play/pause control and metadata on some models
We are working to introduce a Bluetooth update to take care of these issues but we don’t have a release date at this time."

In my TL, function remains unchanged from iOS 6. No metadata shows. Acura never issued an update and simply updated to their page to say iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S with iOS 6 has limited capabilities in that song titles and data connection aren't available.

My battery life on my iPhone 5 was abysmal prior to the update. I had my battery swapped out a few days after the update and things are back to normal. I was looking at comparisons from my iPhone 5 when I first got it last year, and battery life isn't quite as good as then, with difference being marginally degraded for me over the course of the day, in comparison. My numbers show that in general, for various usage cases (time used / time on battery), I drain <2%/hour more than on iOS 6 when the phone was new for higher usage cases, and about the same in low use cases (think, phone mostly idle).

Of course it's not so cut and dry comparison, as my numbers reflect simply "usage" time versus "standby" time and not a realy testament to how I'm using my phone (watching a video versus browsing the web, versus playing a game) or what the signal levels are like. These are more simplistic numbers of just how I "mostly" use my phone when I'm barely using it versus moderately using it, versus heavily using it. Thes scenarios tend to always be mostly the same for me (a heavy day means I was tethering, a light day means I was home pretty much all day, on Wi-Fi, in a good signal area, and rarely using my phone for more than a quick mail check, facebook check, or SMS/iMessage). I'm a bit of a dork and collect data like this, specifically so I can compare and reference when there is an update or I think something isn't right.

That's just my experience. YMMV.

Just wanted to share my experiences...

If have the CDE-W235EBT in Australia and managed to upgrade the firmware to 01.27.00 using a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9). So you don't have to use Windows 7 or Android as per the instructions given. As mentioned by "User AJ" earlier, the trick is to connect, disconnect, connect again as per the "Alternative Update Method" in page 13 of the Windows 7 instructions:

All seems to be work fine with iOS7.1 now and since the upgrade shows song info via BT Audio and can skip tracks using the Head Unit.

Our engineers are currently working with Apple to see if there is something we can do to restore the metadata from the Bluetooth Audio streaming.

Try Settings>>General>>Restrictions>>Bluetooth and be sure Allow Alterations is turned on

Note: After deleting the Bluetooth profile and repairing, Clarion system worked fine....until it was stolen. 😟

Also-My phone would not initially pair, had to "Forget" the existing device and re-pair it.

Are those apps open in the background? Mine only starts playing if I have the app open otherwise it does nothing. I use Pandora, TuneIn and I Heart.

No mention of Parrot anywhere within the spec sheets or the user manual for the AVH-P4400BH. I don't believe it's a Parrot issue.

Looks like Apple have upgraded the Bluetooth stack and perhaps not kept backwards compatibility which has instantly rendered an awful lot of peripherals almost useless. Not good.

Same issues here with a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH and iPhone 4. All I can do is pause the audio. No metadata, no other control. Apple, this is the first update that I really regret having installed. Most new features aren't available on a 4. I was OK with that, but breaking Bluetooth audio is inexcusable.

FWIW, BT streaming continues to work perfectly with complete metadata and control on my Toyota factory audio system (2011 FJ Cruiser), so it does appear to be an issue with some manufacturers but not others.

By the way, various builds of iOS 6 have been available to the development community for several months, so perhaps these audio manufacturers should have done a little more testing themselves.

Apple is not going to respond on here.. everyone needs to provide feedback to Apple via their phone # for support, to the Apple Retail stores and via the website feedback system has.

Responding on this forum isn't going to move the needle.

Hi, I'm sure we or Apple will have a solution coming soon, Apple always mess something up on the big updates... for now you can plug your apple device into the USB, then you can still enjoy your music...

This is fine as a temporary measure but I use a bury car kit charging cradle which would mean I can't access the USB port. Who will cave first. Apple or Alpine. Meanwhile we are in the dark.
