That's exactly how I am testing...sitting at the Home Screen with no other Apps running (all shut down from the task bar).
Well, the screen stayed on again, but I think I figured it out. If certain Apple apps are open such as settings, reminders,or photos, then it does not auto-lock.And I see why,if this is no bug. I use reminders for grocery shopping and the screen use to auto lock like should, but it became annoying when you have to keep unlocking to see the shopping list. It could be on purpose,to keep you screen on so you can finish what you are doing. If those apps are closed, then it auto-locks.
Same problem here, tested diferents times for autolock (1 minute, 2 minutes, etc) and nothing. I use assistive touch. This did not hapen before with iOS 5.1.1.
Regards
solution : turn off all your apps in the multi task bar before u letting it to auto lock. it's made like this so that it will not annoy you when you're multi tasking or taking a short break. period to auto lock will not affect the functionability to auto lock.
Whatever it is, i'm still thinking that this should be fixed in the next update... There must be something wrong with the version for iPhone 4S, since all the problems only appear to iPhone 4S...
Hello everyone!
I'm having the same problem and I'm using iPhone 4. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And I didn't have any apps running. Just the home screen and yes, I do use AssistiveTouch.
I'm thinking it's a bug. My battery drains quicker than ever!
If it doesn't auto-lock when I'm using Reminders/any to-do apps then that's ok, I would love not to have unlock everytime I need to tick off my shopping list 🙂 Unfortunately that's not the case here.
I hope Apple will fix this. I am sure many are facing the same out there, they just probably don't report it.
@sonic.sphere, all my iphone 4s, my ipad 2 & my itouch have this issue after iOS 6 upgrade. As AssistiveTouch is frequently-used and very useful for many people, I think it should be fixed in next version of iOS 6.
I see... That's really bad... But i just wondering why not so many user here complaining on this... Most probably they are not using the Assistive Touch...
4S iOS6 Assistive Touch on. Auto lock not working. I tried to close all applications and it worked.
FIX: When the update directly on the iphone from 5.1.1 to 6.0, this error occurs ... but when the "Erase All Content and Setting", the Auto Lock function normally even on the Home screen or open the app.
It really helps ?

"Ive restored as new and nothing changed"
we can't fix this bug... 😟
Try not pressing last the home button in the assistivetouch to go to the home screen if you want it to auto lock. This is the only time autolock will work properly. The assistivetouch button also wont return to its original position after composing an sms. Bum.

This is not the solution. In all my testing, I purposely closed *all* apps in the taskbar to eliminate any variables caused by running apps.
As I previously mentioned, setting a 1 minute autolock seemed to help initially but after further testing, I've found that *not* to be the case.

This seems to be the work-around for the issue until it's corrected. I'm testing this right now and will report back with my findings.
