IOs 6: Auto Lock Bug iPhone 4S

Auto-Lock is not consistently turning of my screen.

It's a hit or miss.

Anyone else?

I've been testing this for the last 30 minutes or so and found that if the AssistiveTouch panel is the *last thing pressed*, even if it's just to return the panel to it's minimized size, the screen will *not* AutoLock.

To get AutoLock to function normally, something other than the AssitiveTouch panel needs to be pressed. This can be a simple screen swipe.

Because of the additional motion (screen swipe or otherwise) required to get the screen to AutoLock correctly and not stay on indefinitely, I really doubt this is "by design". Seems like a nasty bug that will bite someone hard and kill their battery without them knowing it.

Adding onto my testing:

iPhone 4 (not S) updated over the air (OTA) with iOS 6 has the AssistiveTouch/AutoLock issue

iPad 3 (new iPad) updated directly through iTunes via .ipsw file with iOS 6 also has the AssistiveTouch/AutoLock issue.

So updating to iOS 6 either through iTunes (.ipsw file) or over the air (OTA) does not matter. The issue exists regardless of the update method.

the problem is definetly related with Assistive Touch.

here is the only solution I found: after you closed an app using assistive touch home button, just touch some arbitrary place on the home screen. you may try flipping the page or just touch and move slighly, but don't run another app, just touch somewhere on the screen. then you will see that the auto lock will work (even though you have apps in multitask bar).

i guess when you use the assistive touch home button, it got stuck somehow.

This seems to be both the situation and solution in my case. Thanks Mate.

Edit: Don't know how to give you a little star or a tick, or if it's only that OP that can do that.

Hi, Just like to add that I'm having the same problem. 4S updated to IOS 6 via iTunes. Auto-lock failing to work most times, AssistiveTouch activated.

While the work arounds are great for the short term, remembering to do them is not easy. And .... only know that auto-lock didn't activate when battery almost dead. Not so bad when I'm at home but out on the road this is a real hassle.

I did NOT have this problem before updating to IOS 6. Worse, I told all my friends about using AssistiveTouch .... now feel bad that I may cause them this problem.

I believe it is a bug as I did not see this as a "feature" of AssistiveTouch when I looked through the list of 200 new features in IOS 6. If this is something Apple wanted to do as a "feature" I'm sure they would have highlighted it.

I experience the same situation with AssistiveTouch, but managed to avoid it by touching something - eg. flip page before let it auto lock (last step must not be AssistiveTouch action)

Based on my experience this Bug might due to the AssistivTouch 'Lock Screen' has been repostion to top left corner instead of top right corner previously. So the old code (assume no changes on this sub module) does not applicable anymore [can't find the lock screen option]. you might also notice the screen do dim down after certain period as it do countdown as usual but can't complete the last step to lock screen.

Now got to wait for Apple IOS6 patch to resolve it....
