text messages missing after iOS 6 update

I updated my iPhone 3GS last night to iOS 6 and found that if I click on any old text messages it gets deleted completly. A quick google suggests similar problem was faced when user updated to iOS 5 last year.

now question is - are these messages still on phone or completly wiped out from the memory? Is there any way I can recover old messages? Unfortunatly, I didn't cared to take backup of my phone before upgrading it to iOS 6 😟

regards,

Rajesh

Same problem! About and hour ago I was texting on my iPhone and then the conversation with the person I was texting disappeared. Then I was scrolling down to find it, and I clicked another conversation to find that it was clear as well. Then I closed the application and reopened it to find that ALL of my conversations were gone!! I tried a hard reboot as well as a soft reboot, but it didn't work. I even tried to backup my iPhone and then restore it from backup, but they're still gone (I hope this didn't make them disappear for good?) User uploaded file I have an iPhone 4 and I'm running iOS 6.0. If it helps to know, I did my last software update on air.

I'm trying to help a friend with an iPhone 4 who upgraded to iOS 6 and now can't see his old text messages. If he uses the 'Search iPhone' box then he can locate the old text messages, but when he tries to open them they disapear. Appears the data is intact but Apple have introduced a lovely bug.

If pressed then he can do a restore from a backup made just before the upgrade, but as it was a few weeks back that would mean losing two weeks worth of text messages. Rather defeats the purpose when this really is something that Apple should/could fix.

So, hoping someone at Apple is on the case and going to fix this bug in the next iOS update. Just thankful that the Mapocolypse caused me to wait upgrading my phone. Happy living in iOS 5.
