I updated my iPhone 3GS last night to iOS 6 and found that if I click on any old text messages it gets deleted completly. A quick google suggests similar problem was faced when user updated to iOS 5 last year.
now question is - are these messages still on phone or completly wiped out from the memory? Is there any way I can recover old messages? Unfortunatly, I didn't cared to take backup of my phone before upgrading it to iOS 6 😟

I was able to get my text messages back last night. I deleted my music so that there was enough room to restore from back up. It was late and the restore was taking a while so when I got up it had iOS6 still installed and all my messages since Friday when I did the last backup.
I beg you all wait for a fix. I just tried troubleshooting myself and lost 5 years worth of iPhone data. Photos, texts, settings gone! Do not restore and do not sync and accidentally rewrite your previous backups. And most importantly do not go into and kind of recovery mode!
Add me to the list... text messages gone... worked (reasonably) fine for 2 days... now just ?!?#@#$ gone... 😠
I have the same problem with mass SMS.
Same problem here, SMS i can see on the index, but when open, the SMS is blank, Back to the index and the SMS is lost. !!!!!
I have just been informed by an Apple tech that there is no fix and that 'some people will not be happy with all of the new features' I was also told that I should have read the terms and conditions of the upgrade and if i didnt agree then i shouldnt have upgraded and that Apple reserve the right to modify the software however they wish etc.
How would be removing messages be a good thing??
Actually a little digusted with Apple for the first time since using an Apple product. Ironically one of the messages im trying to read is from O2 telling me a delivery date for my iPhone5 ....

Aparently as normal, O2 have just text me without a number present and i am still able to view the message (just not old ones pre iOS6. It would have been nice if the Apple man had understood this whilst explaining to me rather than get shirty! Actually considered canceling the iPhone5 order until i found this info curtesy of Google!
Same here, not only for company messages.
Yes the same thing happened to me, i cannot view any of the company sms, however in preview i can see them but when i open i cannot see anything, its blank. this all happened after updating to IOS6. hope apple does something to this problem and solves it as soon as possible or else i will have to change my phone.
IS anyone finding that if their other family members upgraded to ios6, when they text anyone, it goes to everyone? Whenever my daughters text anyone I get them, including all replies. I s
also get my own texts back.
Lost all texts, then lost those I had received after the IOS6 update when tried to open them - now nothing.

I have a similar problem on 4s after upgrading to IOS 6. I didn't lose any pictures/videos (I also don't sync them at all to any other devices/iCloud/computers). What I lost is some of the messages, and as far as I can see, they seem to be all iMessages. But they're just with certain contacts, not all of them or all the iMessages... Really weird...
