ios 6 slow

My girl friend and I updated from iOS 5.1.1 ,or whatever, to iOS 6. She has in iPhone 4 and i have an iPod Touch 4th Generation. i know that it's normal for an update to be a good thing and that this OS should make things faster if anything, but on both of our phones everything is slow... i mean everything... safari will work momentarily and very fast at that but it will eventually freeze up again, the app store is also either fast for a few seconds or slow for several minutes. Neither or our devices are "jailbroken" so i was wondering why the majority of the reviews and discussions on the new update have nothing to do with lags and being slow. Everyone's talking about how great, fast, or cool, or complaining about maps or siri. What can i do to fix this ... surely the iOS wouldn't be available models unless it worked... HELP!!!

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6, NOT JAILBROKEN

iOS 6 is the worst os apple has ever produced. Try to beet Android I think , but hello it didn't work. With this new os have the following problems, no battery life, worse 3G coverage only 2 bars now instead of 5, games running very slow, App Store is terrible, sorry Apple this update has ruined my iPhone will either be trying to down grade to ios5 or if that dose not work than a new phone tomorrow and yes an android phone unless apple release ios6.0.1 in the next few days

after restoring my Iphone 4s to the original factory settings through Itunes and not using my backup file, setting it up as a new phone, IOS6 is working great. it was a little of a hassle getting everything back in order but it is working now and i'm pretty happy with it. Not a fun couple of days working through it though. Thank God i use icloud and google for all my contacts and calendars.

As commented by several users above, if you first restore your device and then put your backup back on then you will not experience the issues of a slow unresponsive device. Once you have it working correctly, you will start loving it again and yes it is worth it! However if i had 3gs, perhaps i wouldnt upgrade as the hardware won't be able to deal with this OS. Hope this helps.

I don't know how your experience is right now, But for me over all experience is slow. iOS 6 in my opinion is for 4S and 5 devices. iPhone 4 and below devices will struggle to cope up with the resources requirements.

My experience is slow ... rather poor in app store, the youtube app stucks time and time and its not even buffering the way it was before. I love few options especially the Do Not Disturb option. But over all no significant change which can deliver a WOW feeling.

I agree iOS 6 is lightning fast! Battery life isn't any worse than iOS 5 and overall performance is better! Also scrolling is smoother! The only issues I have which have been previously mentioned are: App store crashes especially if trying to get to purchased tab and the new Maps app which to me is an unfinished product and should be an opt in only app! I do however love some aspects such as it is quicker loading and I like the labels although the labels often have incorect info and I like the yelp integration and rotation. I think it will be great! But for now it should be opt in and you should be able to switch between Google and Apple's servers that the data comes from! Also Safari no longer crashes and I like the new full screen mode! Overall performance is fantastic compared to the terrible sluggish update I got on my iPod touch 2nd generation! My 4th generation with iOS 6 still beats my old iPod when loading games by quite some time! Apple iOS 6 is in many way's better than iOS 5! Fix the crashes and as maps overtime gets better then I shall be able to say perfect! Also I'm loving Facebook integration and Tap to post and Tap to tweet! Not regretting iOS and definitely don't wan't wan't to downgrade if it was possible! The performance is excellent considering it is powered by an A4 chip and has less ram than the iPhone 4 and yet is still fast and multitasking isn't laggy although I don't usually have many apps open at once! If it is slow try resetting all settings and if that doesn't work restore from fresh device! Well Done Apple! 🙂

I managed to fix this issue fairly simply myself, I was having issues with my wifi being incredibly slow, I often use my phones wifi hotspot feature to use my iPod touch when I'm out and about, but scince the update the feature did not work for me, so I shutdown my iPod for a few minutes, turned it back on and now I have a surprisingly better speed

Note: There is a possibility that this is a one time thing, specific to my device, but hopefully this may help others

Proof: I'm using my iPod through my cellular network to write this message

I agree. My phone is extremely slow since the update, and I have to charge it twice a day now. It takes forever to download an app and sometimes it just times out. I wonder if they are doing this so we all go buy the iphone 5. I regret doing my upgrade. They need to fix this asap, it's not fair. I don't want to be forced into buying an iphone 5 when I can get the same thing with my 4s. The only difference is that it is a tiny bit bigger and lighter weight.
