Photo sync issues after 10.8.2, iOS 6, iPhoto 9.4 upgrades

After doing all the upgrades noted above, I was unable to sync my photos to either my iPhone or iPad. The sync would stop with an unknown error 1140 message. I tried all kinds of things, including deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder, restoring the iPad software and setting it up as a new device, and rebuilding the iPhoto library. If I unchecked the sync photos option in iTunes the sync would run to completion (but of course not sync any photos!). There were two other oddities in all this. First, when I would check the iTunes box to sync photos, the option to select specific events was greyed out. Also, even though there appeared to be no photos on the iPhone or iPad, the little disk usage bar in iTunes would show a couple GB of space allotted to photos. Clearly something was hosed.

The only way I could finally get things working was to pull a pre-iPhoto 9.4 photo library off of Time Capsule. I also deleted the iPhoto 9.4 application from the Applications folder and pulled the previous version of iPhoto off of Time Capsule. Now both the iPad and iPhone will sync properly in iTunes again, the disk usage seems right and the option to choose what photos to sync is no longer greyed out.

But now I don't really want to upgrade to iPhoto 9.4 again. Anyone have similar issues or thoughts about what the problem might be?

OK, last night I reported that the new Aperture fixed my problem but now I am not so sure. Before I got iTunes to see my iPhoto library in its entirety, I had been checking and unchecking "sync photos" ans suddenly I say the next check box become available which had been grayed out all along. (sync partial library)

I thought therefore that the aperature library must have been what fixed it but only one of my 4 devices finished syncing. Today I see the same issue again but after going back and forth threw the options, once again randomly it seems to be working. Mind you I have never searched for the & symbol and I have dozens of slideshows with music that might use the & sign. Yest I got iPhoto syncing to work for the second time, so I am syncing my 2nd device. I think the bug is still here for me though.

From bwolfy..."Others finding this please report this to apple."

Done. I've reported the bug to the Apple Feedback site and the Apple Developers site.

Like bwolfy, I encourage all to send Apple feedback about this problem...to as many appropriate places as possible.

I even wrote about this in the review section for the iPhoto application in the Mac App Store.

Although I was able to find the guilty song and seem to be running on all 8 cylinders again, I would encourage anyone who has not updated to iPhoto 9.4.4 to not do so. I have two other Macs and I guarantee they are NOT getting this update until Apple fixes the problem.

iPhoto 9.4.1 is on the way and will hopefully solve all our problems:

- Improves the reliability of syncing to iOS devices via iTunes.

- Fixes an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when using the Export command.

- Addresses an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when upgrading calendars, multiple books, and cards.

- Resolves an issue with viewing and downloading photos synced via Facebook albums.

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.
