Photo sync issues after 10.8.2, iOS 6, iPhoto 9.4 upgrades

The culprit may be iPhoto 9.4. I used iPhoto 9.3.2 on another computer, and at least the selection to sync selected albums was not dimmed. Trying to sync iPhone 5 now, but iTunes appears to have stalled (Finding purchased items).

Thank you Mr Delaney. Though I had to delete the slideshow: for some reason the creation of a custom music playlist didn't work. *very* old slideshow.

I have not upgraded to iPhoto 9.4 (still using 9.3.2) and I am having these issues.

The story is about the DB of iphoto: So... just reconstruct it!!!

Press alt + cmd (with iphoto closed) and open it pressing the keys until the reconstruct menu appears... select the last option "reconstruct"... (take a while) ... then open itunes and Voila!

That doesn't always work with this particular issue (and, in fact, does NOT work when the problem is with a "& " in a song title).

et voila pas! 😉 A rebuild might work for some, and is probably a good place to start, but not always (didn't for me). In this case it really was the slideshow. Editing the music did not work for me but deleting that same slideshow did. And then changing the source in itunes and back to iphoto again.

Thank you Joseph. This worked perfectly. I didn't like the idea of editing the files or attempting a restore of an old iphoto library or version. Have you told Apple about this?

The "& " to "&" search and replace worked fine with me! 😍

I found only one instance of "& " in the name of a .mp3 song; I changed it to "&", closed the .xml file; opened iphoto and changed the affected album's song with another one that didn't have an ambersand in its name.

I opened then itunes, and voila: The greyed out selection of events disappeared! 🙂

For now I solved my iOS 6 sync issue by unchecking "Sync Photos from iPhoto" in iTunes. Apple will probably do a software update shortly to resolve the issues.

This worked in an alternate way for me. I followed what you suggested, but I still couldn't sync with "Sync Photos" checked; furthermore, the option of choosing which albums/events to choose was still greyed out.

However, it did point to an album where the problem lay. Only one album. The strange thing about this album listed in the Albums within iPhoto was that it was a sound file that contained no photos and was never associated with any photo album. Have no idea how it got into iPhoto.

So, I deleted it, closed iPhoto, then restarted it and, Presto-Change-o, all was right again in the world of iTunes, which I also started up anew. I've now checked this with all 3 i devices that were previously 1140'd, iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and new iPad with "Sync Photos" was checked (iPad actually had an album to load in while the others I left all albums and events unchecked) and had the pick album option back, and then proceeded to sync all the way through just as it used to do.

Same error is occuring with Appletv. Please fix ASAP.

I am having the same issue and error message in iTunes when syncing iPhone 5. Super annoying. I deleted all my slideshows, tried repairing my library and still nothing. Please corect this problem APPLE.

If it doesn't work to delete the offending sideshow music then the only answer is to look at the albumdata.xml because I had to call today to get help and it turned out that the offending album was one that did not appear to have any music attached to the slide show. It was an album from 2006. It did not appear to have a current slides show.....very weird. It may be that i had it set to music at one time. They did say they were coming out with an update, but who knows when.
