Iphone 4s Bluetooth problems after upgrading to IOS 6.0

I use the bluetooth to connect my Iphone 4s and my car stereo (Alpine CDE HD138BT) Prior to the IOS 6.0 Upgrade when I streamed music from both Pandora and my music files I was able to view the artist, song, album on the stereo and even use the stereo control buttons to skip tracks, search, etc. After the upgrade I can still pair the two and play music but I lost all of the other additional features and can no longer see the information or control it from the stereo. I have deleted the pairing on both and then re-established again but that didn't fix the problem. I found on the stereo specifications that it uses Bluetooth version 2.1. Is there any way to force the Iphone to revert to a previous version of bluetooth? (I am also going to post on an Alpine site to see if they plan on doing an upgrade.)

I have an iPhone4 and a Pioneer AVH-P2400BT car unit. I've upgraded to IOS 6. The update (from what I've tried and what I can tell) is NOT reversible.

Here's what I've found happening between the iPhone & Pioneer for bluetooth streaming audio:

1. The track/artist info no longer displays.

2. The track skip buttons no longer function.

3. The pause/play button no longer functions. It may SEEM like it does, but it simply mutes the audio, the content continues to play (silently) on the iPhone.

4. The content no longer resumes when the vehicle is started.

5. The content will pause when the vehicle is turned off, but a couple of seconds continue (silently) on the iPhone.

6. If content is paused by the vehicle being turned off, it will resume playing on the iPhone speakers following an incoming phone call, whether answered or not. (This can be a little embarrassing, depending on the content of your prefferred podcasts! 😊 )

I tested this with other devices i have that will control the music via bluetooth and confirmed that it is Alpines problem, not iOS. I called Alpine and they said that there is a known compatibility issue with iOS 6 and they are working on a firmware patch for the units. Don't give up on either the phone or the stereo because of this setback, they are working to fix it and your unit can be patched just like any other device. Call alpine and confirm if you want, but take it from this software engineer, its not iOS thats the problem.

Edit - It may be a compatability issue with using the new bluetooth protocols. I'm sure its not all iOS's fault, it may very well be partly due to the stereo manufactures.

I spoke with Alpine support for the second time regarding this issue. They told me they are still working on it and will have a fix but aren't sure when that will be - they are still trying to figure out the problem. Eventually they will issue a firmware upgrade and hopefully everything will work again.

For those using a different product then Alpine, you may want to contact them and make sure they are working on it as well. I originally hoped that Apple would realize how many people were affected by their switch and they would fix it but I don't think that is going to happen. The Alpine guy seemed to allude to the fact that it would be Alpine's responsibility to fix not Apple. He told me that different versions of Bluetooth are more of a roadmap and not a specific standard. The industry hasn't agreed on all of the specs for bluetooth yet so the changes they made aren't some type of a violation. Now, it is up to each device company to write the controls that work with Apple IOS 6.

Hopefully this gets corrected soon, I hate pluggin in my USB cord.

I've got an Alpine CDE-W235BT and really loved it. I have an Iphone 4S. Before the IOS6 update it was working perfectly with bluetooth, metadata, skip/play/pause/ Track info, all working from the head unit.... post IOS6, I no longer have control of skip/play/pause from the head unit, and no track info.

It still streams music but no control or track info, I have to unlock the phone to skip a track rather than press one button on the stereo wihtout taking my eyes off the road.

Is there an update we can download to fix this problem?

I just bought and installed this CDE-W235BT less than 2 months ago.

It's not only your hardware, I have hearing aids because I'm rather deaf. These connected to my iPhone with no problem but now if I disconnect it takes forever to reconnect when actually they should be a trusted device and oink straight away

I gather Apple refuse to change which, bearing in mind the number of issues, is a bit arrogant and very sad

I have the iPhone 4s (iOS6) and Alpine CD-HD138BT. I am experiencing the same problem, obviously. I called Alpine today to follow up. They said it IS iOS6 and not Alpine's hardware/software causing the problem. Sadly, he also said "we don't know what to tell you." He said it's being looked into, but didn't seem to know if a firmware update would fix it. He didn't offer much hope. I asked if I could return it to switch it out with another unit, to which he said no b/c it's not their equipment that is to blame. However, 90% of the reason I bought it was for that funtionality - which no longer works properly. They don't seem to be too eager to let their customer base know they are looking in to this issue and and ETA as to when that could happen. Why can't they post something on their website concerning it?
