Iphone 4s Bluetooth problems after upgrading to IOS 6.0

I use the bluetooth to connect my Iphone 4s and my car stereo (Alpine CDE HD138BT) Prior to the IOS 6.0 Upgrade when I streamed music from both Pandora and my music files I was able to view the artist, song, album on the stereo and even use the stereo control buttons to skip tracks, search, etc. After the upgrade I can still pair the two and play music but I lost all of the other additional features and can no longer see the information or control it from the stereo. I have deleted the pairing on both and then re-established again but that didn't fix the problem. I found on the stereo specifications that it uses Bluetooth version 2.1. Is there any way to force the Iphone to revert to a previous version of bluetooth? (I am also going to post on an Alpine site to see if they plan on doing an upgrade.)

If Apple knew that manufacturers and users relied on functionality and released an update without adequate testing or with no care to retain that functionality, then it seems they're losing what distinguished them from other premium technology manufacturers - care, attention to detail and quality. And this time also: safety. Having to change tracks on the device while driving is not a good idea, and probably not legal. Apple should do what they can to find a solution - especially since they've created the problem.

I have a unique bluetooth issue after upgrading my iphone 4s to ios 6. Apparently, ios 6 added some enhancements for using Siri with car bluetooth systems. Unfortunately, the enhancements have created some compatibility issues. Before ios 6, I was able to use Siri in my 2009 Acura MDX (by speaking directly into my iphone, not by using the car's bluetooth system). Since the upgrade to ios 6, I have trouble accessing Siri while in the car. I still try to access Siri directly by speaking into the phone, but Siri locks up and doesn't engage. I did notice a new bluetooth indicator next to Siri when attempting to engage, but Siri just freezes. If I wait another 3-5 mins., and try again, Siri will often engage.

I also noticed when I took my car in for service and got a newer (e.g., 2012) Acura loaner vehicle, Siri worked much better and automatically engages the car's Handsfree Phone Bluetooth system when you push the Siri Home button.

I am speculating that Apple added the ios 6 enhancements to work better with "some" bluetooth car systems. The problem is that it now works worse with some older bluetooth car systems. Is there a way to undo that enhancement, so I can use Siri in the car again? I thought that was the whole purpose behind the handsfree assistance.

I can still use the bluetooth without having and dropped calls but, no functions for it. Alpine is really to blame for the most than apple. Alpine has had the SDK for the new iOS 6, 6months prior to its release and failed to do any testing before the release. Upon th release they "***" umed they would work smooth as from the 3 to 3gs to 4 and 4s. Alpine needs to fix this they have for their higher end units that have GPS but, still nothing for the single din.

I am experiencing the same bluetooth problems as fjr_birdog with a iPhone 4S / Pioneer AVH 8450BT after upgrading to iOS 6.0.1.

  1. The track/artist info no longer displays.
  2. The track skip buttons no longer function.
  3. The pause/play button no longer functions. It may SEEM like it does, but it simply mutes the audio, the content continues to play (silently) on the iPhone.
  4. The content no longer resumes when the vehicle is started.
  5. The content will pause when the vehicle is turned off, but a couple of seconds continue (silently) on the iPhone.

I contacted Pioneer re the AVH-P8450BT and iOS 6 bluetooth issue and received this reply,

Your email is an accurate description of the current compatibility issue between the AVHP8450BT and the iPhone 4S running the latest iOS6.0.1 from Apple. Unfortunately Pioneer do not have a firmware patch available to correct the problem. Pioneer are aware of the issue and do understand it is an inconvenience. If and when Pioneer do create a firmware fix to correct the operation it will be posted on the Pioneer web site Support Section. Please periodically check the web site for a fix to the issue.

The problem as I see it lies on Apples side as Pioneer (and other manufactures) didn't change anything. This is very poor form from Apple.

After upgrading from ios 4 to 6 has caused me many problems due iOS 6's inability to consistently stay on.

1. I connect to my cisco phone/plantronics headset at work. I have to turn my bluetooth on first

2. I connect to my bluefusion in my car that allows me to hands free talk and jam on the music that i no longer have because after upgrading it will no longer let me add music to my phone unless i purchase it thru itunes. I have to turn the bluetooth on, if i want to use it. Usually i forget. But i shouldnt have to remember. So much for hands free.

3. Most importantly, I was able to connect to my home phones. So when my iphone would ring, so would my homephone. This was great because i have phones all thru-ought the house. So i could hear them. So now i miss alot of calls. As soon as i can afford a Samsung galaxy note II, i will be off this band wagon for good! Something else that made me mad along time ago that doesnt have anything to do with the upgrade, but is the fact that apple will not allow you to buy a kindle book via and apple product. They want a percentage. I call that greed!

Your final point is not quite correct, as you can certainly buy Kindle books from Amazon through Safari, just not through the Kindle app. As Apple and Amazon are direct competitors in the e-book business, you shouldn't really be surprised that they don't want to make it easy for you. You can't access Apple's bookstore at all from a Kindle, so Apple is actually being a bit more user friendly than you're giving them credit for.

How do I buy books on Kindle for iPad or Kindle for iPhone?

For iPad: On your iPad, open Safari and go to www.amazon.com/ipadkindlestore. When you find a title and tap "Buy", choose "Read in app" to read the book in your iPad reading app, or choose "Read in browser" to read in Kindle Cloud Reader.

For iPhone or iPod touch: On your iPhone or iPod touch, open Safari and go to www.amazon.com/kindlemobilestore. When you find a title and tap "Buy," choose your Kindle reading app from the drop-down list, and then choose "Go to Kindle for iPhone."

I just spoke with Alpine tech support and the guy said that an update should be on the website "any day now".

BUT he seemed completly uninterested and was rushing me off the phone from the very beginning.

So I hope its true, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was bs...

Also, he said that a laptop will be required to connect to your head unit, via bluetooth, to install the update/fix/whatever.
