iOS 6 killed Wi-Fi Sync

Hey guys,

I updated my iOS and OS to the newest versions respectively today. As well as extremely intermittent Wi-Fi in general, my iPhone now does not sync via Wi-Fi.

All the settings are the same as they were before the update.

Sometimes the phone appears in the side bar of iTunes but just hangs at this for 5 minutes before becoming solid and ejecting in the same second.

Extremely frustrating problem. I have restarted my modem & router, my iPhones network settings and my MacBook Pro.

Any help would be great!

I have assigned Static IP addresses for my iPhone (192.168.1.100) & Macbook pro (192.168.1.101). But I don't understand how to add a static IP in the router.

Can you please guide?

For instance I'm using a Linksys router. What should be the destination IP address & what should the gateway be?

Should the destination IP address be something like 192.168.1.1?

I'm just guessing & I'm new to all this. Thanks.

you don't have to assign static address to your router: if the devices you mentioned previously are the only one used by your router you should be fine with it.

But if there's a lot of other connections to your router.

There must be a functionnality in your router to allow both dhcp (dynamically obtain an ip address), and reserved address.

In a nutshell the idea here is that your router doesn't allow your static address, dynamically to another device, that it only reserves these addresses for your client (ios device) and server(itunes workstation)

Send me the model of your router i could look at their user's manual to find the place where to put your love....🙂....

AND DON'T CHANGE YOUR ROUTER ADDRESS....!

Both DHCP & static works simultaneously. No problem with that.

So basically I can access the internet from both my devices after I have made the changes. Subnet mask, router IP are all the same across all devices.

As per my understanding the static IP thing you suggested is done from my end, isn't it?

I have endlessly restarted my devices hoping that things would work. Nothing.

Still can't sync over wifi.

Iphone is on latest update of ios6 & Macbook pro is running latest updated Mountain Lion.

I also spoke with Apple Support on the phone & they said that it was working on their test device.

yes you do the "static ip thing" from you end.

Like i said in a previous post: i didn't update to 6.0.1, because eraly adopters (the kind that i was befor ios6) of 6.0.1, are still complaining about wi-fi, and possibly apple has added insult to injury e.g. they probably made it worst syncing wireless....

I must be honest though: you need to reboot both your iphone and workstation AT LEAST one time before it hangs properly (and you'l have to do it again in the future)....., and then even if the sync is greyed, if it says that it is waiting for your server to be available, just let it nap 10 minutes, it will probably finally establish the needed handshaking

Since my server is in my wardrobe, i don't want to go there to reboot: i use a rdp connection(terminal server) or something else to reboot it....and i have my ios device.

But my goal is same as yours: never connect my ios device to my itune machine anymore.

And here we have 4 windows pc, 2 macbook air, 4 ipods, 2 iphones, 2 ipads, so there's a lot of possible conflicts ... and every ios device is working properly with the syncing...with static and reserved ip addresses.

Obviously the ios5 devices are doing better for the sync....but still, sometimes get the greyed sync button...

WHat i hate is: going to the closet or restart the router, and i don't do it anymore for syncing........my real problem these times is : battery life on my mid 2011 macbook air that i've updated last saturday with mountain lion.....

There's something that tells me Apple is slowly but steady losing its gloss....that's sad

Hi everybody

This is my temporary S-T-A-B-L-E Windows solution:

iTunes starter (simple batchfile)

Windows xp version to place on desktop (itunes.bat)

@echo off

net stop "Apple Mobile Device"

net start "Apple Mobile Device"

cd C:\Program Files\iTunes

start iTunes.exe

Windows 7 version to place on desktop (itunes.bat)

@echo off

net stop "Apple Mobile Device"

net start "Apple Mobile Device"

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

start iTunes.exe

Let me know if it work for you !!!

I've been dealing with this for sometime now. I have found that it is the DNS cache to be the cause of this problem. In the Activity Monitor window it's called mDNSResponder.

Try this:

Open iTunes

Open the Terminal App...

Copy this into the Terminal window... sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder followed by your admin password.

See if that works for you.

If you have the Cocktail app you can clear the DNS cache from there. And... you can also use the Automator app to use the Cocktail app script to do this too.

(One of the other workarounds that I found that works... Have iTunes open at startup... this seems to work too.)
