Re: iOS 6 Missing Personal Hotspot

I am currently using iPhone 4. After upgrading to iOS 6, I couldn't locate Personal Hotspot. I have tried to reset the network setting but to no avail. It is not even under General - Cellular Data. Thus, I have no way to turn it on. Basically it just disappeared from my phone. Please kindly help me. Thanks.

I did exactly as what you said, but it did not work for me.

So after removing Onavo, I did Settings>General>Reset> Reset Network Settings.

It asked for a confirmation and the phone turned off and on automatically.

Then I got back "Personal Hotspot" at two locations

1. Settings>Personal Hotspot.

2. Settings>General>Mobile Data>Personal Hotspot.

At 1, it seems it is a shortcut, and this greyed out if "Settings>General>Mobile Data>Mobile Data" is turned off.

Obviously item 2 would also disappear.

Thanks for the guidance.

BTW, I am using iPhone 3GS and updated to iOS 6 last week.

WIFI Networks are forgotten by the phone and so i had to re-login.

I have an iPhone 4S and after upgrading to the iOS6, had similarly lost the Personal Hotspot option.

I haven't installed Onavo, but after reading the posts here, I installed it, turned my phone off and on, then removed the Onavo certificate as suggested. And incredibly, the Personal Hotspot option appeared, albeit in the different location!

It's now in Settings>General>Mobile Data

Hope this is helpful to some people.

I previouls had HotSpot on iOS 5.1, then I just upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS6, Hotspot not available. Went through Setting - Cellular - Set Up Personal Hotspot pops up "contact AT&T/ call / website" so I called.

They reprovision my data plant service 3-4 times, nothing. Then one of the support people tried provisioning my phone with a 5GB data plan and whaala it worked. She then reprovision it with the 4GB data plan and the HotSpot disappeared.

So I will be back on the phone with AT&T.

So the iOS6 currently will not work if you have a 4GB data plan.

So here's my solve path for the personal hotspot missing issue after upgrading to iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1. This is on a iPhone 4S. I have the 4GB data plan plus tethering (personal hotspot).

Summary of fix

- The issue wasnt the phone. It was fixed by Level 2 AT&T by messing with network/account settings. My plan didnt change to 5GB - the 4GB plan I was on is the same now its working. I didnt get a new SIM card, or a new phone. So my suggestion if you face this problem is call AT&T, and escalate the problem up through their support.

Steps Tried

- Turn phone off and on

- Reset network settings

- Restore phone using itunes back to factory defaults. Setup as a new phone.

- Restore phone and recover backup

- Do a reset on the phone (hold down top button and front button).

- Called AT&T and was transferred to Apple. Apple escalated up to a Level 2 support person. Transferred back to AT&T Level 2 support (who fixed the problem).

- Note - apple support and AT&T support apparently cannot be on the same call at the same time (some bogus rule). So they will transfer you back and forth but cant be on at the same time.

- Initially AT&T Level 1 said it was Apple problem (a punt - they couldnt work out how to fix). Apple Level 1 said it was AT&T's problem, so its important to get to Level 2 so they actually try to fix.

So like I said at the top, the key is getting AT&T to fix your account, not the phone issue. They will ask you to turn the phone off, then back on a few times, then reset network settings again. It was the network settings reset that finally fixed it for me, after they monkeyed with account settings a few times.

Good luck!

I have the same problem with my verizon iPhone 5 personal hotspot. Intermittently connects to either my ipod touch 4g or ipad Ist gen.. I tried from turning off the iphone and/or hotspot; changing "LTE"; changing "Hotspot" name; togging "bluetooth", and it started working again. But if the device connected to the iphone 5 beomes to far out, you can never reconnect to the hotspot.

Is this Apple or Verizons issue??
