Re: iOS 6 Missing Personal Hotspot

I am currently using iPhone 4. After upgrading to iOS 6, I couldn't locate Personal Hotspot. I have tried to reset the network setting but to no avail. It is not even under General - Cellular Data. Thus, I have no way to turn it on. Basically it just disappeared from my phone. Please kindly help me. Thanks.

None of these "settings" solutions works for me. What I am getting from this thread is that the solution appears to mostly be a function of the carrier now. That's a foul! Personal hotspot is a feature with my phone. It has nothing to do with any one else. If I want to use up my plan using 5 of my devices, it's no one's business but my own. Another case of Apple screwing up something with an update that used to work fine.

Hi, I have an Iphone5 upgraged to 6.0.1 and went to use my hotspot and it just up and disappeared. Reading your post I went looking in settings->general and there is no Profile section on my phone. I opened up cellular in settings general and there in the bottom was the hotspot selection feature. I tried it out and it works. In closing I would question what is going on with Apple products. Phantom changes to my phone makes me suspicious.

I have tried it all, including including navigating through to cellular data and the personal hotspot option just keep circling on and on and on.

Sure restoring the phone works for a day or so then everything is back to uselessness !

Apple give me my iOS 5 back. I liked it and did not want 6, but you convinced me my phone was showing the battery usage incorrectly and upgraded my iOS. It was the battery in the end after all and now I have no hotspot!

My issue is fixed , without going back to iOS 5!

My phone required carrier settings for tethering so that the hotspot option would reappear in settings. The setting was within Settings > General > Cellular > Cellular data network > Internet tethering

Just for clarity I could always see personal hotspot under cellular but it was not accessible to me as the phone was just showing the moving circle like it was trying to load it without success.

Personal Hotspot and Internet Tethering is an option provided by the carrier. Generally it is a part of your plan however sometimes it won't be and that is entirely up to the carrier. While it is a feature of the phone, it must be enabled in advance before the feature will be displayed.

Sure the error came to be with iOS 6.0, but as with any operating system, the people who provide services that use that operating system must provide the support for it. Think of a video game you might own on Windows XP, then Windows Vista comes out and you install it, you then try to use that same video game however it doesn't work on Vista because of how the software works. Who do you blame? Do you blame Microsoft for releasing a new OS with new features? Or do you blame the video game producer who hasn't yet supplied an update that supports Windows Vista?
