Is iOS 6 draining iPhone 4 battery faster?

I have tried the tip posted earlier in this thread - deleting the new Facebook App!

It appears to have worked - 4S - been out all day, quite heavy use and still at 64% - anybody else tried this and had the same result?

I noticed that it turns Bluetooth on automatically. Go settings and turn it off if it isn't needed?

I find shambolic that we have to try and remove those very features which make the iPhone the smartest of the phones because a new operating system is letting us down. The iPhone costs twice as much as many other excellent phones and its battery life is now a third if not less. I used maps yesterday and it went flat from 80% in 20 minutes! I had the 3g and then the 4. I was considering the 5 but I will need to consider other options. This phone is now unreliable for proper use!

Had the same problem.

Try deleting the FB app. Should get a battery life. Seems to be working for me

Though the earlier IOS worked better

Gtuck, This two machines (the apple IIs) age us quite clearly. I haven't tried a restore but I will give it a go. I have read that it doesn't really work, though.

If you're going to do that you might as well have just a phone!

I don't have the Facebook app so that idea is out and having to soft reset every time I open the map app is getting very very annoying. I have noticed that apple has not mentioned this in theier apologie for the map shambles or are they just hoping we will upgrade to the 5 well I am 6 months into a 24 month contract so they got no chance there, and I think the maps are taking over on the tech supports so the 4s is now forgotten about, the battery life on mine has turned it into an expensive paper weight, lookalike 3 new android phones in this house to replace faulty iphone 4s very very soon.

I'd suggest you not do a restore, but instead set it up as a new phone. Restoring from a back up will perpetuate any software issues that are compromising your battery life.

So is Apple Support going to address this issue? I certainly appreciate the time & effort all the iPhone owners have put into circumventing the issue(s), but I think it would be appropriate for an actual Apple Support Engineer to 1) Acknowledge the issue, 2) Explain the root cause and 3) Get a fix out! (or at least a estimated date for a fix).

...and somehow keep the latest solution easily available (keep at the top of the page, regardless of other posts/comments?) I'm too tired to search through 222+ comments for the fix. I'm a cranky old man!

Yes, crazy battery draining after updating to OS6. My iphone 4 was always great with battery life with OS5.

I've tried turning off everything I could think of and there is a small improvement, but still bad compared to before upgrade.

I found this thread after similar problems since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS6 - when I went to bed last night my iPhone showed 51% charged - 8 hours of standby laster it had switched off as the battery had run out! So that's probably less than 8 hours before draining unless it happened to switch off just before I picked it up. And that makes my iPhone practically unusable - it wouldn't even last a train journey with some usage.

Many of the responses on this thread talk about messing around with some of the more esoteric settings and functions. While that might have some effect, it's not acceptable to have to do that - the whole point of an iPhone is that it has lots of functions compared with an old phone/text only phone. Many iPhone users won't have the knowledge of inclination to do that but will just look to something else (Android) when they get around to upgrading.

I'm going to try backup/restore from my iMac. That feels to me as if it is the most likely problem - something got corrupted in the update - given that this only seems to affect some users rather than being a universal problem (my wife's 3GS seems fine - battery is good even with tethering switched on). But it's not acceptable for Apple to pretend there isn't a problem - even just an acceptance that the update gets corrupted on occasion and suggesting backup/restore as a solution. I'm not a "Cult of Jobs" type but Apple does seem to be making these basic errors more and more often lately - the reason I and many others buy Apple is because we don't suffer this sort of nonsense like Windows users seem to.

Guys, just want to infom you, that backup and restore helped me, but after first three times it was just slightly better, after 4th restore I was finally to battery life like before IOS 6.

Same issue for me, just bought the iPhone 4s 15 days back and after updating to IOS 6 the battery is draining too fast.

But you restore your backup or reinstall everything ?
