I tried several of the ideas presented to solve this issue. Finally I deleted my email account & then added it back on my iPad and it worked again. I was able to get my emails & use my Safari. I was actually having the same issue with my iPhone 4 and this worked as well. I don't know why this happened to both of my devices at the same time. I traveled overseas and this may have triggered it. I am not sure though.

Thanks Jem24, I know the thread started ages ago, but as you will notice it has gone on till very recently, I was trying to add my ideas to the end of the thread but being new here I didn't quite do it. But, notice that there are people still trying to get information on this topic!! And trusting John has it solved by now too. Cheers bz

NONE of that password reset etc worked for me and if you're as frustrated as I was I have the REAL SOLUTION / FIX FOR CANNOT GET MAIL CONNECTION TO SERVER FAILED stupid error

just go to settings> mail. > delete your yahoo account and now ADD account (DO NOT CLICK the convenient yahoo logo) hit OTHER> hit add mail account> put in your username and password then hit next> in the host name space put "imap.mail.yahoo.com" put your user name and password in the spaces provided. >in SMTP put "smtp.mail.yahoo.com"

hit done and stop pulling out your hair like I was for hours following well meaning but non helpful suggestions of deleting etc.

I couldn't get my mail for at least 3 days - but it was working fine on my iPad and my office iPhone. I got so fed up I downloaded the yahoo email app and signed in.

Within an hour my iPhone email app was up and running perfectly.

- It's definitely worth a try if nothing else is working. I tried everything - deleting all accounts, changing passwords etc. Now I think of it I think I did he same thing by accident the last time my email didn't work And again it fixed itself. So maybe this is the trick.

I'm intrigued to see if it works for you guys - let me know.

Exchange mail worked for me after deleting unused partnerships. I followed steps as per below exchange outlook email.

You have 10 phone partnerships out of the maximum allowed 10 partnerships. After you reach the maximum, you can't create additional partnerships until you delete existing ones from your account. To do so, sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Mobile Phones, and delete any unused partnerships.

Had this issue with my wife's new phone. Entered email address, which was verified. But each time mail was accessed we always got message 'connection to server failed.

We tried all of the various suggestion on this forum, but only one worked.

>Settings >Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (your email and delete account at bottom of page)

>Settings >Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other (at bottom) > Add Mail Account

Name - add a name

Email - add your email address

Password - enter the password associated to email

click Next (top right corner)

Once verified everything should work?

I had the same issue a week ago on my iphone 6. I noticed that the problem pops up when I tried to check my mail at home being connected to home wifi. I resolved the problem in 2 ways:

-By disconnecting the phone from the wifi and using the phone data only. Or

-Secondly with wifi being connected

Go to the Setting - Wi-Fi - identify your connected wifi(the one ticked in front of it) - tab the the circled i in front of the wifi name, then under the IP ADDRESS there are 3 options: DHCP , BootP , and Static. BootP was highlighted on my case. Select DHCP. Then it works.

Good luck !

I had this problem, tried everything on my own, then went to Apple Support. The support Advisor (Stephanie) worked patiently with me for 45 minutes with immediate call backs. She then determined that the problem was with my home server. Simply unplugging the server, waiting a minute, and plugging it back in immediately fixed the problem. Stephanie is a valuable employee.

I had this problem with 1 of 2 yahoo accounts accts after I resent both passwords on the desktop. One sync'd up the new password with my phone and was pulling email fine while the other started giving me this message.

After trying 100 different things... what worked: I made that email acct inactive (Settings>Mail>Accounts>[that email acct]>switched the Mail toggle button to off), closed the mail app, and turned the phone completely off. Then, turned back on, made the acct active again, opened mail app... voila!

i had this problem till just now. the problem is yahoo updated its securety and less secure app like the ios mail app need permission if you have recently been notified by yahoo to change your password. heres is what you do:

1. log into your yahoo acct.

2. mouse over your name plate when the pop up menu appears click "account info"
3. on the account info page click on the account security tab.
4. scroll down to see "Allow apps that use less secure sign in" option and turn it on it should change blue.
5. go ahead into the ios mail app or into mail setting and add your accounts if you have deleted them and log in like normal. you should be all set.

this has solved my issue on my Iphone4
