Why is the new iOS 6 so slow?

It's not slow at all on my iPad. Have you tried restarting yours?

The forums are full of people who, like us, have performance issues with ios 6. On my iPhone 4, maps is basically unusable, coverflow would take me a year to get to the 50th song, and the App Store is basically now useless unless you are interested in the one of the top 3 apps shown in any result. Mail is several seconds slower than an ios 5 iPod running on the same network accessing the same account.

So whil EI' sorry I don't have any advice - it's definitely not just you.

It's not me at all, as I said above. Perhaps you meant to reply to the original poster? Nor does your experience on an iPhone 4 or iPod really apply to someone with an iPad, that being very different hardware.

And of course the forums are full of people who are having problems. People who aren't having problems have little reason to post in a technical support forum. That's not to say that there aren't issues, but they aren't affecting everyone by any means.

yes there are problem in the new iOS6, no Youtube as installed App. the new Apple Map is suck, the 3D and map photo contents are few years old, locator are distance away to actual location. Hope Apple will has update soon.. I am thinking to reinstall my 4GS and I-Pad2 back to iSO5.1.1 wait the new update iOS6 come out.

Sorry varjak, I did mean to reply to the original poster. Not sure I understand the logic behind the rest of your post. Although some people, like yourself, are not having problems, or kindly offering suggestion like rebooting or instrunctions on going back to 5, all I meant to do was reassure DrIMMad that it was not an isolated incident coupled to his device and/or environment. Make sense?

As for me, I have five iDevices in my home, and they were all effected. I am glad it's working for you, but you are the first person I have seen post so far that says they are not having issues. I suspect some people are more tolerant of the changes as well.

I installed it yesterday and it is awful! I can't do anything, and tv is impossible!

In the last 30 minutes it seems better, we'll see. But I miss IOS5 already, is it possible to go back?

Same issues here. On iPhone 4. Drastic experience slow down. Considering reverting. Miss iOS 5. Anyone on 4S or 5 experiencing performance issues ?

I'm not at all tolerant of changes. I just am not seeing any performance problems in my 3rd-gen iPad.

As to not seeing people say they have no problems, well, people who aren't have little reason to be posting in a technical support forum. It's fine and sometimes useful to say "I'm also having similar problems", particularly if you're specific about the issues you're seeing and what you've attempted to solve them. That can in some cases save others at lot of work, though that a solution didn't work for you doesn't rule out it working for someone else. But saying that the forums are "full of people" doesn't really say much of use, since of course that's what you will see here.

Agree the new ios6 is much slower. I found this post by doing a search to find out if it was only me. I've done off & on & a soft reset. Neither helped. Everything seems to load much slower & hangs.

Maybe the new apps aren't optimized yet. However, I had one of my worst experiences with the Apple App Store. One would think they'd know how to optimize their own site & app.

I just hope it's not a bloat issue because the "upgrades" are not worth the performance trade offs to me.

Also, the iMaps are definitely not ready for prime time. I tried getting directions between two locations that were very mainstream and the app said it couldn't provide directions. I'll take Google without turn by turn, thank you. At least let us have a choice and let the best app win.

App Store app is really slow here as well. Scrolling isn't smooth. Sometimes swipe gestures don't register.
