FaceTime and iMessaging wasn't working for me a few minutes ago, and out of curiosity I decided to go next to our family router as I was trying to use it from my room, and magically it somehow started to work; so I would seriously recommend trying that.
It seems like this is a major Wi-Fi problem on Apple's part; everything about ios 6 is such a disappointment.
would just like to expand on this point. like everyone in this thread, i have been experiencing trouble with imesssage working consistently. I had managed to pinpoint exactly what is causing it to stop working and that is whenever the my wifi connection got reset, imessage would stop working once i reconnected.
However i had been unable to find a consistent solution to fixing this problem. sometimes reseting all the settings would work but not all the time. other times it would just start working without me doing anything. However after seeing this post i decided to try something out. I decided to go into the room in my house where my router is at, and where i would have the strongest possible wifi connection (always 3 bars). I reset my ipod and unlike every other time i have done it, imessage actually started working right on start up. i repeated this a few more times to see if it was a fluke or not. each time imessage worked right on start up.
i then went upstairs to where the wifi connection is a little bit weaker (a constant 2 bars of connection). I reset the ipod and imessage did not work right away on startup. i repeated this a few more times and each time imessage would not work..
so then i went back downstairs into the room with the router (3 bars of connection) and i restarted the ipod. imessage worked right away. then i went back upstairs to try it one more time. imessage wouldn't work. so then as the imessage was stuck on sending, i walked downstairs and as soon as i got 3 bars, the message sent and imessage started working correctly.
And once imessage would start working orginally, it didn't matter how many bars of connection i had, it worked flawlessly until i reset my wifi connection again.
i also tried this with my ipad 2 wifi only version and i got the same results.
so i suggest to anyone who's been having the problem of imessage not working once your wifi gets reset, to move your device to an area where you get a full 3 bars of wifi connectivity and see if this helps you.

I had the exact same problem.
I could use safari and surf the app store.
I just couldn't use facetime or iMessage, and apps weren't sending me notifications.
If you get really close to your router, something will fix itself and everything starts working normally.

I've got the same problem yesterday, when I upgrade my iPad2 to iOS6.
After I upgrade it, I found FaceTime, iMessage and Appstore all do NOT WORK.
What I've tried are (1) reset all content, (2) change my originate country to UK. None of these work. I was tempted to apply for ANOTHER APPLE ID, but that sounds annoying to me as I would lost my purchased apps and takes me time to redo some of the setting.
After seeing chances14's post, I tried to put my iPad2 near my MBA (I share the LAN line by MBA), FaceTime, iMessage and Appstore all returned normal function!
As chances14 said, it's likely to be iOS6 defect in WiFi reception. Wishing a debug ASAP.

iOS 6 is an unbelievable mess. Way to go breaking something that didn't need fixing. If this is how Apple is going to handle Steve Jobs' legacy going forward, maybe it's time for shareholders to start jumping ship. How is it that I can log into this forum with my Apple ID to lodge a complaint, but I can't use the same ID to sign into iMessage or FaceTime? Why is it taking this long to fix such an apparent problem? I know I'm not the only Apple fanboy out there frustrated with the direction this company is heading. It started with the iPhone 4 antenna design botch, then Lion, and now iOS 6. Are you even listening, Apple? Your most loyal customers are screaming at the top of their lungs!
Thanks for the opportunity to vent. I would normally do this by Facetiming or iMessaging to my family back home, but I can't.

While I found this solution impausible (because I could get wifi weather, stocks, and maps, AAA, Safari) I tried it, and when I got all three bars of reception the texting worked. and it seems to still work in the original part of the house where it wasn't working yesterday.

I've had the same problem. I was just talking to my friend and then all of a sudden it wouldn't send anything. I've restarted it multiple times(the wifi and the app itself) I haven't erased anything yet I don't want to lose any data. I am wondering when the next update will come out and if I should take my iPod to get it looked at. I just updated my iPod a week or so ago

Same thing happens to me, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, though I haven't updated to iOS 6 yet! lol. So when it decides not to work I just use skype... I hope it works when I update to iOS 6 or something because I can't get it to work!

I am having the same issue. ever since got the new iPhone 5, iMessage hasn't been working. Tried reactivation, works for a little bit, but then stops again. tried calling Aple support, they asked me to restore, that is also not working

For what it's worth, I live in the UK, but the Apple ID that I use is for the US region. When I did a full restore of my iPhone, I first chose the UK region and that's when I had trouble logging into iMessage and Facetime using my Apple ID. When I did a full restore again, but chose the US region instead, I was able to log into iMessage and FaceTime. I would try restoring your device to factory settings and, when going through the initial setup, choose whatever region coresponds with the region where you first created your Apple ID.

I have read these posts and have also tried everything that was suggested. Each time iMessage is inconsistent. Sometimes it works perfectly, rare but true, and most times it just hangs at the end of the upload bar. This happened on IOS 6 upload. IMessage will not work like it did for sending pictures. Not at all. APPLE BROKE iMessage and APPLE NEEDS TO FIX IT. It is obvious that they new this BEFORE they inflicted this update on the masses and they still did it. I have been looking at other tablets as it seems APPLE DOES NOT CARE.
