iPhone 4: no text tone with iOS 6

I hadn't even noticed that was an update even though I was assured by Apple I would get a notice. I am updating as I type, but until now I only get notices if I leave DND off. Too bad as that was a feature I really wanted to use.

It still appears to be a problem with iOS 6.0.1 for me as well.

Yeah I checked as soon as I updated to see if it was fixed and it was not. With the notifications shown in the lock screen it works just fine for me. I've just accepted this.

i have worked out the problem .

its to do with iclould contacts linking.

go to a contact and remove the linking for that contact

then go back to your contacts and you will see there are 2 of the same contact

delete 1 and you will be as it should be with text tone when you receive your texts again

ps iclould linking is found by scrolling to the bottom of your contact

after you have hit edit

hit the symbol then you can unlink

I have just left the apple store and from the testing we did its definitely a software issue. When I turned on my 'view in lock screen' the iPhone 5 did vibrate but as soon as I switched that off it didn't vibrate. The apple employee had an iPhone 4 and the same issue happened with his phone. My old 3GS didn't have this problem, why? Because I hadn't updated to iOS 6.

Like others I've just paid $300 for a new iPhone 5 when that doesn't tell me when I have a new text message.

I've tried everything on my 4. Nothing works. So it's a software glitch. What's taking long to fix it,Apple? It can't be that hard. Chop-chop!!

I found the solution on my phone was due to docking the phone to my car stereo. Apparently docking the phone gives the device you are docked to control of the device. Put your phone back on the dock, get your audio back and undock. Hope that helps!

I don't think it has anything to do with being docked. I never dock mine. I'm almost 100% certain that it's just a bug in iOS 6. Hopefully it will be fixed in 6.1 which is expected after the holidays.

A restart (hold home and lock button until you see apple logo) brought my 4s back inline iOS 6.0.1

I've tried everything but wiping my phone clean, I have a 4s w/ATT, and it still doesn't work. 😟 So far, I really miss my old Windows Phone... I can't believe I'm stuck either paying full price for another WP or waiting for 2 years, since I've only had my iPhone for a few months. *sigh* Apple, SOOO not impressed!

It looks like it's a bug in iOS 6. It worked in version 5 just fine. I'd bet that it'll be fixed in 6.1 which is expected around the end of the year sometime. You won't have to wait 2 years.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.... :-) Unfortunately, I'm noticing more and more things not working... like any sound from any website, skipping around and not recognizing my music, apps randomly closing or getting stuck.... heck, I'm half-expecting the "blue screen of death" to freeze up my phone! That actually happened once or twice on my WP7, and I thought it was just a PC thing, but the way my 4s is acting after iOS 6... *heavy sigh* At least on the WP/Microsoft forums they had actual employees monitoring the boards and helping people to trouble shoot, identifying themselves as Microsoft employees & responding fairly quickly to any concerns...

I just ran the diagnostics on my phone, through the Support page, and the solution offered was to have the phone replaced.

I was getting no text tones, IOS 6, I phone 4, tried many suggestions in the thread, then what worked for me was turning off "Do Not Disturb' completely. So far so good, got my text tones back when receiving messages.

I ordered a Google Nexus 4 and put my iPhone 4S on eBay. This will no longer be an issue for me. 🙂
