Essential and convenient are two very different things. Remote controls for televisions are convenient, not essential. AC is very nice, but, again, not essential. Or perhaps we have different deffinitions of esstential. To me it means a thing that is required and without which the task is impossible or so difficult that it becomes not worth doing. None of your analogies fall into that category for me. Thank you for your reply.

I will be interested to hear what dmanasco has to say should they decide to reply.

Best of luck.

I have now heard it all.... The apple oompa loompa's are playing down the junk that is apple maps by questioning the need for street view by users who have come to depend upon it from the far superior google maps. In the same thread as claiming how useful the flyover functionality is.

apple products are quintessentially luxurious. We don't need an apple device, we want it because they are beautiful, they did what we wanted them to do and we could afford it. The fruit that is apple however lost it's shine with ios6 and whilst I am cutting my nose off to spite my face in saying this, I hope they lose significant ground to android and realise that they need to reshape their ideas to do what apple once did best!

My apologies for making weak analogies, however, my original argument remains... I routinely used Street View for my work. Not as entertainment and, in truth, not even a mere convenience. Being prepared as I venture into unfamiliar neighborhoods, sometimes sketchy and often at night, isn't just a convenience but, for my line of work, it is absolutely a question of safety. Perhaps I am not making an adequate enough argument to convince you of how useful this feature was to me, but your agreement with my opinion is not my main concern. You asked why people found it to be essential, and I just offered my own experiences. I know what a godsend it was to me back when I first discovered it and I am greatly frustrated and disappointed at Apple's tepid response. I purchased my device with the plan to use Street View as an integral part of carrying out my home visits to the sick and dying. To have a primary function removed from my device is leaving me to feel cheated and undercut by Apple. Of course I am continuing my work and doing my best in a bad situation, but every time I head out to work, I am reminded how great it USED to be and how much more unpredictable and disadvantaged I am now.

Wow, I thought I was being reasonable and polite. Again, my apologies. Typically, the creators of new technologies may have ideas of how their inventions will be utilized, but once that product gets out there, it's the users who discover new purposes and additional applications that the creators may have never even imagined. Instead of implying to customers, "We know best what you want and need to get your job done," wouldn't Apple better serve their customers and eventually their own bottom line by listening to how people use their product and build upon that input instead of stifling it?

HELP

Not the sort of guy to complain about anything, but the mapping on ios 6 is totally useless compared to your previous app.

Seems that I cannot even remove it, seems wrong as if I loaded it from your App Store it would not even score 1 star on your listing.

So angry here as I was in Europe 2 weeks ago and it was so wrong in every respect, not sure if you know how angry crap like this can get you. Seems you can no longer load the prev maps or wind bak to iOS 5. Have now bought a tomtom nav system as I have totally lost confidence in ever trusting apple again.

That brings me to your passbook, as my job takes me all over Europe,I though what a good idea, but no one it seems in Europe uses it, another totally rubbish app that just clutters the screen that cannot be deleted.( love to be proven wrong)

I have always stuck to many apple products and now on the iPhone 5, having just purchased for my wife a hue Wei or something that was £200 that seems better in so many respects compared to your Neanderthal offering that if things don't improve I will also be moving to.

Your rep though understanding could offer me no guarantee that things will improve in the near future, why when apple was a confident leader and understood its customers is now appearing not to give a hoot about there customers.

Re iPad while a great product, why now can I not watch YouTube in full screen the app that was on iOS 5 was just fine but now only on safari can it be viewed not utilising the full screen, distracting borders, you must know.

Have the feeling here were going no where so best try a nexus or similar by next week.

A very disappointed customer.

Ps in your drop down list you does not even have iOS 6 to complain about, looks like apple are loosing the plot or becoming to blaise.

Come on Apple, don't let us down. It's just an app!!!

That's what people seem to be missing: it's not "just an app". Apple always made the Maps app. What is different is the geobase. Apple had to license the right ot use Google's geobase. To be beholden to one of your chief rivals that way just doesn't make good business sense.
