How can you get Google Maps back. This new Apple Maps feature is HORRIBLE
Still haven't updated to ios6 just to keep the maps. My wife upgraded her phone and now all I hear is complaining with maps and Safari. Samsung is looking pretty good for the next phone right now.
It's not complaining. It's whining.
Just needed to vent and say how close I was to tossing my iPhone 4 out the window yesterday. The Maps app is a piece of s___t! The directions are wrong, there is no blue dot marking my location and the page turns are clumsy. I want my Google Maps app back!!!
Download WAZE. It free, voice turn, navigates. Nice peice of software. Works great. I never use Maps. I don't see any buzz as to when its going be corrected either!
I agree!!
I loved Google Maps and travel a lot for business. I've been back in London for a month and its been **** on earth getting around using Maptasrophe created by Apple. APPROVE THE NEW GOOGLE APP!!
Here maps... is not so nice... but works much better than IOS Maps, problably is a good alternative until Google maps arrive again.
I'm also looking forward to Google Maps for iOS6. I upgraded iPad to iOS6 and made a quick decision NOT upgrade any of my other iOS devices, once I got to know the new Maps in iOS6.
As such the new Maps offers nice eyecandy, and I got to admit I was pretty WOW seeing Madrid fly-by - the resolution and details were just that great.
...then there's the other side...
I'm actually using maps a lot in Madrid including public transit - as it's very well integrated and offers great information including waiting times for public transport. iOS6 way of install random other apps blaablee just ***** compared to way old maps handled it.
Then there's the issue of actually *finding* anything. Just to give example - finding 'Calle de la Paloma 8' in Madrid works perfectly with more generic searches like "calle paloma 8" with old Maps. However, try the same with *new* Maps... yeah. Not so easy. The picture below highlights the issue.
Of course I can find the addresses typing them *exactly* as Maps expects like in above case "calle de la paloma 8", but even depending on map source there might be difference if indeed address is marked as "calle xyz" or "paseo/calle xyz" or "calle de xyz" and so on, so using generic relevant information is just way nicer way of actually finding anything.
Google, have mercy and bring the maps to iOS6 fast!!! And Apple - hit the approve button the very minute Google gives you the chance.
br,
Petri
Still can't believe Google Maps is gone. When is Apple going to provide a respectable replacement? The current one is RIDICULOUS!
Apple maps has ruined my iPhone. Apple makes some of the greatest hardware but their software is the worst. From Apple maps to any of their computer OS. They really need rethink the old expression of "know theyself". Apple, you make great hardware, but let someone else make your software. I was already annoyed that Apple refused to use flash. I understood why. It's a dirty program. But, dirty or not, it's what the internet uses. But, instead of giving us what we want they try to force us into smaller and smaller boxes. Well, I'm done with all that. I'm officially done with the iPhone and all my other Apple products. Good luck to those that continue to go down with the ship.
I am as disappointed as the rest in the decision regarding google maps. But some of these comments are way over the top. We are still talking about a very good product that used to be great. But lets face it; it was never perfect, nor was any other phone out there. So now we have a legitimate complaint about a corporate decision that directly affects how we use the product. But does that mean that all the products are bad. If you think all Apple products are now bad because of a corporate dicision about one lousy app, then I suggest you made a mistake a long time ago when you bought the first Apple product.
For me, I still think that the Mac OS is the best for what I do. I still think the iphone 5 is great, though I am not happy with the mapping app. I have voiced my opinion about that here and in a communication to Apple. I hope that the situation is recitfied soon. But I not going to ditch all of my Apple stuff just because I now find out the truth: Apple is great, but not perfect. And I'm OK with that bit of reality.
Apple would be great if their upgrade didn't downgrade the phone's capability.
Thankfully Google made an app for their maps. It's still absolutely ridiculous that Apple dropped them and teamed up with the morons at TomTom for the worst application in mapping history.
What was the original post? How did I get here? Anyways, I just will vent. Google maps was one of the best things about my iphone. As I was able to get locations in some of the most remote places in the world without having cell service, now even with service, wifi or 3g I can't get an accurate reading. If I didn't spend so much for the iphone, unlocked because I bought while traveling abroad, I would drop kick it into the South China Sea and buy an Android operated smart phone. Seriously, one of the primary features I bought the phone for has rendered the iphone nearly useless. They would have been better off just handing out a globe when you buy the phone.

Back in the day I had a phone that made calls - it did it really well. I could speak to the person I was calling and they could hear and speak back.... Today that same phone is free with a pay as you go sim and I probably have several in a drawer somewhere,
I purchased an iPhone because it makes more than calls and was a quality reliable product package that included that "one lousy app" as you put it. I'm apaulled at the fact that you are okay with standards dropping for what you spend your hard earned cash on. Those of a similar disposition are the reason apple continues to sell its latest gadget before a review is even written and why apple believe they can continue to do what they please with no consequence.
Congratulations.
You just don't get it. Here is the reality for you - http://www.theonion.com/video/apple-promises-to-fix-glitches-in-map-software-by, 30616/
